  1. Re:DMCA on Artist Suggesting Ways Around Copy Protection · · Score: 1

Well, the same issue of "who owns the creation?" came up in the comics world, and eventually led to the creation of a new publisher that left all rights with the creator. Of course it took a good 20 years or so for this to happen...-sob-

  2. Re:Boy on Is Rodi BitTorrent's Replacement? · · Score: 1

No kidding. Friggin' coffee beans and snakes get all the credit, and he keeps getting picked on by his bigger and younger brothers! Oh well, at least he's still in the running, unlike ole Pascal and Fortran...

What's a movie without Bat-Thermal-Underwear? (How the #$%$#% did Adam West say that with a straight face???)

  4. Use real-world hashing. on Enforcing Crytographically Strong Passwords · · Score: 1

One thing that I've started doing is using having users figure out a real world hash for what they would normally write. That way, they can just use something they -will- remember, and then mentally encrypt it with a methodology they can also remember. So for example, take the password you would type on a qwerty keyboard, and instead, type it as you would in Dvorak. I think I stole this idea from Blake Ross' crypto research, though. If the biggest problem is network hackers, shouldn't it be possible to have computers develop their own hashing methodologies so that users don't have to rack their brains trying to think of something convoluted? Second method: Wasn't there a slashdot story a while ago on using phrases rather than single words? Password: "Let me in, you idiot!"

  5. Up-to-date? on Google Adds Satellite Imagery to Maps · · Score: 1

An amusing note--the images need a bit of updating. The big Ikea they built in East Palo Alto is shown as a patch of empty land. More amusingly, the site for Google HQ is a dry patch of grass. ^_^ Ah well, hats off to a wonderful innovation anyway!

  6. homepod! on Multi-Room Wireless Sound System? · · Score: 1

Add a Homepod. (http://www.homepod.com) You'll essentially be able to use your PC as the host and deliver music to different rooms as you want. Interface it with your existing speaker systems, or let the little gadget run on its own. Only key is that it needs a power cord of its own. ^_^

  7. Re:First ON TOPIC post? on FireFox Sets the World Ablaze · · Score: 1

Well, notice that it's actually written by a reporter from the Stanford Daily. I read it last week in print. And yes, it was in the 'features' section, intended literally -as- a nice piece of PR for FireFox and good ole Mr. Ross.
