The last month has just been unreal. I can't say that I'm unhappy about all the intel/mac changes, I think it will be good for the enduser. But after 10 years of bashing mac's for their hardware, and 4 years of wishing that I could get OS X on my PC,
It all just seems to good to be true......
My question is this, where's the catch? There has to be something we're missing here. They must be planning to screw the consumer in some way...
I didn't expect such a response to my offhand comments about keenspot. I also happen to enjoy Schlock Mercenary. Keenspot is not all bad, I guess I've just read too much of Scott Kurtz' rants about them (he's not a fan, we'll leave it at that). I think amateur artists in general do not get paid as much as they should, for that reason I have a lot of respect for webcomic artists, they take risks just to entertain us.
I saw this a few days ago on Scott Kurtz' site, definately nice to hear that some guys are making it out of Keenspots wretched clutches. I realize that keenspot has it's place, but I have to yet to hear anything good about it.
As an avid webcomic reader I'm always glad to see more good artists out there. In fact after reading through just a few of their comics I discovered that I really didn't have time to read them all! Arghh there are too many good comics for me to read.
I was dumb enough to defend Netscape over their security flaws, but breaking IE! I'm not a big IE fan (who is?) but I realize that need for it. I spent 3 hours last night with windowsupdate.com, on IE. It's not like they didn't have the chance to test it with Internet Explorer... You're right 3 strikes and they're out.
On a brighter note I guess this all just makes Firefox look better. After all why mess with Netscape when Firefox is so much better. We just need to let the rest of world now;-)
Urghh... I must stop saying dumb things on slashdot
Honestly there is an extension for firefox that does something very similar to the "switch to IE rendering" function. My comment about the browser wars being back was a mix nostalgia and positive thinking.
I first used the internet with Netscape 1.0, and was a faithful Netscape user up until Windows 98, after that Internet Explorer was just better. I always tend to go with the best product, surprise surprise I now use Firefox. And although opera has a lot to offer, the return of Netscape (even if it is recompiled Firefox 1.03) marks, in my mind, a return to real competition in the browser market....
I agree, I'm off topic. Just got so excited about getting the first post... oh well that'll teach me.
Honestly I don't know why people are ripping on Firefox, it's not like Internet Explorer doesn't have a million exploits. Maybe I'm too tolerant, but a few minor exploits that are not even being used! I just don't think it's worth all the grumping and moaning. And let's not forget that 1.04 came out within a short period of time after 1.03. Yes, they probably should've waiting on the 1.03 release until it was safer, but you can't fault them for not fixing it quickly.
Until I see Firefox's "vulnerabilities" causing headaches and spyware infections, long live firefox!
The browser is dead, long live the browser
I agree with you on that, it would be a wonderful idea. Personally I would spend up to $100 just for a windows "add-on" for linux, even with activation rammed down my throat. It would be a lot more useful than windows lite (where you can only run a few programs at a time), and it would be a hit with Hackers and Alpha geeks (we all have to use Word sometimes).
Just one big problem with it, they will never do it. Although we see all the positives, they would see the negatives. What would stop people from switching to Open Source apps? Windows Server's strength is that it's built on XP. If you could just run a wrapper or "add-on", then everyone would use Apache (etc.) and Microsoft's server business would die.
Maybe I'm being too apocalyptic, but from my understanding of Microsoft, that's how they would see it..........

Oh the bitter irony. A google program has been hijacked, on google's own website. Isn't life great

I don't mean to shoot down their idea, but what about people that don't have the best eyesight, or what if they're colour blind?
