  1. MXLogic is good choice on Spam Filtering For Small/Medium Business? · · Score: 1

    I run a small business who primary source of income is web development and we were recently approached by MXLogic to be a partner. We tried out the service first before offering it to our current and future customers and it is the best solution I have encountered and glad we can offer it as a solution to our customers. MXLogic works by directing your e-mail through their servers first so your servers don't have to do the extra work. You actually get a better deal working through a partner and directly through MXLogic. I don't want to give a direct link because I don't think comments should be used to advertise but you can contact me via my profile to learn more. I think it was eWeek or Information Week or similar magazine rated it the top solution.

  2. why I visit the library on Gen Y Hits the Library the Most -- But Not For Books · · Score: 2, Informative

    I'm 42 (is that generation X?) anyway I visit the library at least one a week for the following reasons;

    1.) I check out at least 4 DVD's at least once a week. Money was pretty tight for me this year as I spend most of my money investing in my business and paying off debts. I've seen a lot of classic movies as well as new releases I have never seen or would have never found at the video store or even online.

    2.) I use the free wi-fi and will set up a temp. office space for serveral hours especially when I need a quite place to get some coding or blog writing done.

    3.) I do check out books but I usually hit the new books sections. It's only two shelfs of stuff.

    4.) I read local business journals that have a lot of great content about local business (especially my competitors) as well as some magazine.

    I do agree however the tech section is a joke in most libraries. If they are not going to keep that section up to date they should keep some of those books at all. It's pretty disturbing to see reference books for programming languages that are several versions back. What really an indication these books are out of date is they often have screen shots of Netscape....3.0.... on OS9.

  3. Interesting on Online Nicknames Google better than Real? · · Score: 1

    Interesting. I recently wrote an article on this very topic on my business blog. http://www.spinningsilkmultimedia.com/linkerjpatrick-my-personal-brand/ I'm self-employed but I'm starting to get more and more comfortable sharing a screen name I have standardized on over the years. It helps of course if the screen name is not embarrassing and is descriptive of what I would call your life mission or career passion.

  4. It's not just those under 25 on In The US, Email Is Only For Old People · · Score: 1

    I'm tired of heared this "under 25" crap. I'm 41 and for the most part I loathe what e-mail has become. This is what I had about e-mail; 1.) It's inherently insecure and measures people could take to make it secure are rarely if ever taken. 2.) most of the direct e-mail I get from people I know is stupid chain letters, links to videos I saw years ago,etc. 3.) After years of alternatives people still send honking large attachments that are not meant for e-mail, even those with fast connection. 4.) Phishing schemes 5.) and many more I much prefer the collaborative environments of things like Basecamp, Instant messaging, text messaging e-mail in of itself is an ok idea but the technology needs a serious upgrade. It seems when other things have progressed e-mail has been stagnant. Why can't we tie e-mail in with a secure ftp system so attachments are sucurely sent to an ftp server and links are automatically created like the way Twitter does with long e-mail addresses? Why do people have to go through the convulted process of getting certificates and making sure their receivers have the same thing for decryption. This may sound silly but I rarely see viruses in my e-mail give us a Snopes filter to keep out Aunt Helen's panic e-mails about Proctor and Gamble and the satanic church, etc.
