Actually, I find that ball mice are the best for gaming. Call me old-fashioned if you want, but aside from them and trackballs, I don't get the same control from mice. Opticals are very iffy when it comes to gaming, and often skip.
Currently using a Dell Ball mouse, generic 2 button scrollwheel.
