yes I think there was some misunderstanding that could have been avoided. It's a shame. But really, RMS should feel no fear about taking code from xemacs; who/what company would attack legally? Lucid is gone. Time to bury the hatchet, RMS.
It might be that in the future there will be no market for desktop software on any platform. It started with web browsers, then web helper apps like real audio, and has now moved to productivity suites with the StarOffice deal from Sun... So end users will pay companies like Sun and MS for support for their free (as in beer) software, just as they pay their ISP now (for services). The model will be the same with open source end-user software, except there will able to be multiple companies competing to support the same software.
Jyang, The WTO is not democratic - no ordinary people in China *or* the US have any influence on what they decide. It's not just the 3rd world's problem ; it affects everyone. And people in the 3rd world (except the ruling elite) are against the WTO as well. Think about it - do you want Chinese workers to not have independent labor unions?
First I give BIG props to Rob and/. in general for working on this. The meta issue is really interesting mathematically; reminds me of Godel Escher Bach..it's a recursion that seems to never terminate, or terminate at infinity (the Djinn, meta-djin...)...etc.

of course, that presupposes that he ever DID get the point..which he never has.

interesting, but unfortunately the paper fails to answer the most important questions for Slashdot readers :
Can this "human brain" thing run linux?
Can it be networked into a Beowulf?
ROTFL!! I love it. :) Now THAT sounds like a fun workplace!
