My initial reaction was "damn them, how could they ban such a wide range of music?". I did not find anything to confirm this anywhere else on the web, so I emailed one of our (many) clear channel stations and asked if this was a joke or for real. The reply was prompt, this is not a list of banned songs. Rather it was a list of songs that had titles or lyrics which could be deemed inappropriate due to last week's tragic events. The program director assured me that these songs were never banned and in his opinion the list was a "stretch" for the most part.
MAD was my favorite magazine in the late 60's through the 70's and Don Martin was my favorite MAD cartoonist. Of all his characters perhaps his most endearing and nerdy was Joe Fonebone. High-water pants pulled crotch tight and white socks/dark shoes. The prototypical nerd. Around my house my children understand what "looking like a Fonebone" means whenever I hoist my pants up too much!
RDS sounds like a great idea. Like all great ideas it will take time for it to sort out. Perhaps by the time it arrives to mainstream America, our European brethren will have debugged the system properly. Regarding Pirates, I would not be overly concerned given the homogenization of commercial radio. In some ways perhaps they would infuse some spontaneity and fun back into radioland.
Beige boxes are like vanilla ice cream, it's not bad if it is the only kind available. I agree it would be cool to have a neat box to house my equipment. That in mind, it would make no sense to have one of the "flavorful" cases currently available unless it was possible to get other components in living color too. Having all of those beige CD, floppy and zip drives inside some of these colorful cases would be akin to wearing white before memorial day (or so my wife keeps telling me);-)

So let's get back to real life!

RIP Don.
