"One thing at a time, And that done well, Is a very good rule As many can tell."
This had been drummed into our heads since we were kids. Maybe I am too old and nobody remembers these quotes anymore.
The kind of tasks the article is talking about is more complicated than walking and chewing gum at the same time.
I came here to see if someone has posted http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindfulness meditation (vipassana). Mindfulness meditation is to be mindful of the tasks one does everyday. This increases concentration and makes everyday tasks a practice of meditation.
I am very surprised no one has posted this yet. Are/. Buddhists slacking (or multi-tasking) these days ?
For starters try Anjuta or KDevelop. Both of them are really complete IDEs. If you really want to just have fun you should go with Ruby, it is designed 'to enhance the pleasure of programming' according to the author. But that doesn't mean it is not powerful, just look at rails. There are online books that will help you get started. There is also a nice channel on freenode, #ruby-lang, with really helpful folks.
If left to me I would say emacs, the learning curve is slightly steep, but there is nothing to beat the versatility.
If you are new to programming then don't program, as simple as that. Or in this case program as little as possible. So use Game blender http://www.blender.org/ download the blender game demos, and check them out. You can get up to speed in days, also the logic is scripted in python, which is easy to learn. You can get lots of help on the web, on IRC, irc.freenode.net, #gameblender and finally you can get lots of premade scripts/blender files for things like fps (first person shooter) motion etc., Keep it simple, it should be one level or two atmost. Even things like shooting arrows at moving targets are fun, the arc of the arrow etc., teach you physics and for the player it takes time to learn, so they get hooked. Have a goal, the user at the end needs to do something like rescue a princess or find treasure. No OpenGL, SDL and C++. Period. That is simply impractical. You'll end up coding the engine and won't have time for art or game play planning. If you really want to do something like that look at CrystalCore http://crystal.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Crystal+Core (#CrystalSpace on irc.freenode.net) or nebula device. But good luck on that.
I got my ATI 9600 radeon pro working with the 2.6.x kernels. Here is a short procedure of how I go about it. 1. First install the rpm based drivers. Now if you look under/lib/modules, you will see the ATI drivers directory fglrx/. Go to the build_mod/ directory and do a./make.sh.
2. Now it should autodetect the existence of 2.6.x drivers and it will do some stuff. cd back to fglrx directory and do your usual./make_install.
3. After this cd to your kernel directory where fglrx.ko is installed and delete it.
4. Then cd to/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x and delete everything except the Makefile. I do a
rm -f *.o *.ko *.GCC3 *.c *.h
5. Now do a make in the 2.6.x directory.
6. Copy the fglrx.ko to the kernel directory where fglrx.ko was there.
7. Now run your fglrxconfig or whatever to create the XF86Config-4.
8. I have a nforce based chipset, so I enable the nforce motherboard drivers during kernel compilation and set this option on in my XF86Config.
Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" I have an AMD so I need to switch off mtrr
Option "mtrr" "off"
9. Now try a X, remember you need a dri enabled kernel and you need to have enabled dri in your xf86config.
If you look in your/var/log/XFree86.0.log, it should say DRI initialization successful. I have used this procedure to get acceleration working at both work (firegl card) and home (radeon 9600). Both on intel and nforce chipsets. But you may need a little more hacking around to get it working. And for all those people who say nvidia chips are better. Once you get the ATI drivers working, they are a good competition to nvidia. In fact ATI had things like quad buffer opengl stereo on X, which was why I switched. Also I don't have a vaccum cleaner running inside my box.
If you (or anybody) get it working please reply to this post, so I can write a feedback report on the ATI website.
I have mod points, but I don't want to mod you down, because in meta modding normally there is not much context. So I will reply. Your post is modded up informative, but it is not correct, because in the story he is comparing this technology to Verizon's fiber offering and not a generic fiber transmission.
Talking of serious mental math. I had a friend in college, whenever any advanced engineering problem was given in class. He would just stare blankly at the paper and draw small circles, and after sometime scribble the final answer on some corner of the sheet. He would be the first to get the answer and it was almost always correct. This guy could do everything from integration to fourier series/transforms in his head. Now that was some serious mental math. But he was naturally talented, so I haven't seen anybody else like him.
Try vedic mathematics. There are several books out there, you can try amazon.com. Where I am from (Bangalore, India) we get these books for 1-2 dollars a piece and they come in several volumes. But I saw that they are fairly expensive on amazon.com. If you know someone from India you can ask then to get it for you, it may work out cheaper.
You could also try a google search I found some interesting websites

I don't know about you, but I have mine working perfectly. I get 1662 FPS on glxgears. You need to read the manual and try again or ask in #ati on irc.freenode.net. I had never used an ATI until like a 3 months ago when I bought this card. Well I am glad I did and I paid a LOT less for it too than a comparable nvidia card. I run redhat 9, with kernel 2.4.20-8custom, drivers work perfectly for me. Oh BTW the motherboard is an Asus A7N-266 VM, in case you are interested.
Well here is how much things cost in Bangalore, India... Note exchange rate - $1 == Rs.46.15 1. Food
If you are eating outside everyday(say) a nice vegetarian meal in a very nice restaurant would cost you around Rs. 55 (around $1.10). Of course nobody in their right mind would eat this kind of food everyday. This is like say eating in Tuscany in Chicago.
Normally you eat a good meal which costs around Rs 20 - Rs 30, if you are eating out everyday. Or you spend around Rs. 1000/person/month ($20+) and cook stuff yourself. 2. Milk is around Rs.15/liter -- around 35 cents roughly. 3. You pay rent depending on the area you live in but it is expensive and would cost you around $50-$100/month. 4. Owning a car no idea, but I am thinking it is $100-400/month depending on what car you buy (or more) 5. You can live comfortably with a $500/month salary. And like a king with $1000/month salary.
When the Nawab of Maler Kotla issued an edict demanding ten Muslims dead for every Hindu killed in the state, Mr. Nonviolent-Resistance gave it his blessing.
This was statement has been taken out of context, he said "unless I demonstrate that nonviolence is more effective?" at the end. Which actually meant that if 10 muslims killed for every hindu then it would lead to more bloodshed and people may atleast learn from that. He was not exactly "blessing" the Nawab of Kotla and I think the Nawab of Kotla was a muslim. So the above poster's remark does not make *any* sense.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that up until World War I, he was just fine being an officer in the British Army (fought in the Boer Wars and the Zulu wars).
Ofcourse! he was exactly a normal person like the rest of us, who gave up all his worldy possessions and involvement at a time when his involvement in this world was complete (wife, kids, great job et.,). He demonstrated "unattached work" the ability to be involved in this world and live in it and still be a monk. (Complicated I can't explain it here, read the Gita if you are interested or even the bible...)
Or that he let his wife die because he didn't want her to receive a penicillin injection to fight her pneumonia (hey, the guy had his principles). Of course, those principles didn't extend to refusing the quinine that saved his life when he was suffering from malaria.
This above sentence is wrong on so many levels. He considered the hypodermic needle, which is invasive, as an instrument of violence. This may be an extreme intrepretation, but it was his intrepretation. And quinine is taken orally so it is not violent. The other idea was at that time Indians were boycotting British Goods as a form of non-cooperation movement. Penicillin was a British product.
I don't have the contexts the other quotes from the above poster so I am not going to comment.
Last week I stumbled upon the GameBoy Advanced development scene. I found out that GameBoy does not have an opengl port for it. I come from mainly the PC Game developer scene. So I have ported TinyGL (http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/TinyGL/) a small free subset of OpenGL API.
If anybody is interested the website is this. The GBA is not very good at 3D, but I believe still little 3D games like 3D chess, 3D fly throughs should be feasible. I am trying to optimize it, the library is under a BSD like license.
Thanks,
But I guess you didn't read my post completely. I can't see the preferences->gestures dialog box. I can't configure it. Also I tried the user.js the other guy suggested and also creating a new profile. None of that work:(. Well time to uninstall and reinstall I guess. Thanks anyway though.
Don't install it!!! I installed gesture thing just now. But whatever gesture I do, it closes the browser, including when I select some text. It is extremely annoying and dangerous. I just lost a slashdot comment when I selected it. But worst of all there is no gesture configuration in preferences. And you can't control the cursor with the mouse. Crap! now how do I uninstall it ?
This may be offtopic (Hell it is...mod me down). But since I use mozilla as my primary browser. Here goes. This site, poo-clan, doesn't seem to work. Anybody have any idea why ? I am using 0.99:(. I already have nearly retired IE.
Not really. There is python scripting ability to blender. I know that there is a way in which you can write a script to export to whatever format you want. Get on the Crystal Space mailing list and ask. They might be able to help you. crystal minus main @lists dot sourceforge dot net.
Ummmm...hello ? Blender file the.blend format is a binary only propriety NaN format. It is not.iv. But it can export rudimentary models (and maybe textures) to vrml 1.0. Which when renamed to.iv works with inventor. But you still have to fiddle around and edit the.iv file manually sometimes (texture file paths etc.,). But no blender's default file format in which the animation is stored is not in.iv format and it can only be viewed by blender.
only a few of us, who are endowed with everything, can only dream of. You go my friend. Goes to show that there is no substitute to hardwork in any field. Congratulations!!!
Can't you use a nose plier and straighten the pins ? That is the manual way to do it. I guess you must be able to get a nose plier from radioshack. And if you can remove the plastic casing you will be able to push the receded pins (pin #11 in your case) out. This happened to me once and I was able to straighten it out with a nose plier, but I didn't have any receded pins:-(.
Good luck,
Hope this helps.
