We have total success! The fix worked just as you said, the pins were different and we had to use a 2k2 resistor as 33k was too dim - hasn't caught fire yet. Thanks again for your assistance - we would never have known where to begin with this.

I'm a technician for Napier University and have just read your post from January regarding the repair to an iBook back-light. I have a student's G3 iBook with the same problem - definitely the video chip. Could you possibly give me some more info as to where you permanently pulled up the control signal of the backlight?
Any help much appreciated, thanks
