You had to be in the noth of Scotland last night. An absolutley brilliant display. Two huge arcs right across the sky with radiating green filliaments extending from the upper arc. To make it even better there were meteors bordering on fireballs streaking across it. And where was my camera - at home, where else?
It worries to see people paint Kevin Mitnick as some kind of hero. This guy knowingly broke the law, repeatedly. Slash dotters are known for their love of freedom. However, true freedom comes with responsibility. Responsibility for ones own actions. Living within the framework of the law is part of freedom. It is there to protect your rights. No countries laws are perfect. Infact they are often far from it. In this particular case you may disagree with the sentencing. That's up to you, but that is a seperate issue. Making a hero of Mitnick will only result in other gullable people following the same course of stupidity and beleiving they are "cool" when "fool" would be a better description. This bloke's life in now a mess but just remember who really messed it up. Himself. He thought he was invincible but he was caught!! I for one do not feel sorry for him.
P.S. You can learn a whole lot about computing, networking, security etc without having to infringe on the rights of others!
(That great crashing noise you just heard was me falling of my soap box)
Why don't they put in some trial crops of those plants you see in waiting rooms. Preliminary studies have shown that they also contain a high percentage of plastic. They don'y require water either so they could be used to revegetate desert areas too. Don't think it's biodegradable though!
But wouldn't the shock wave from the explosion in a relatively small area like a lake kill vast quantities of fish. Also, repeated irrigation using this method would cause massive errosion gullies as the water rushes back toward the lake and would strip the few remaing inches of top soil which has not already been destroyed by modern farming practices.
Watering crops with salt water would cause reverse osmosis to occur. Instead of water and nutrients being drawn into the root, the high salt content in the soil would reverse this flow. The cops will then wilt and die. Not really a good idea unless you were planning on creating a famine.

1. Reading from paper is easier on the eyes. (In my case anyhow)
2. You can take it anywhere. Read it outside in the sunshine, or even in bed.
3. People feel safer with a hard copy than just having a file on a computer which could easily be trashed if they are not competant users.
