    I will always consider Unicode broken until all the other single and double quote characters are removed from the standard and replaced with the real quotes (0x27 / 0x22)

    Plus BofA is doing everything it can to antagonize their customers by raising fees and eliminating free accounts. They wonder why people are going crypto ?

    They purchased a small bank I used many years ago, after 1 year of dealing with them I fled and urged everyone I know to do the same. They are the worse.

    IIRC, one of the BSDs request the following:
    1. run this command (forgot)
    2. review the output
    3. email the output to address ??? if you do not mind

    And anyone who installed Slackware will notice 2 emails in root's mbox, one has instructions on how to add "Register with the Linux counter project". Why can't Ubuntu do something like that ? This way you avoid the 'tin foil hat' feelings.

    I assume you are exaggerating a bit, 20 years ago GNOME 1 was released.

    Or are you from the future, did GNOME 6 remove everything by then :)

    I guess GNOME3 wants to be just like cwm without keyboard accelerators and using lots of memory.

    Wonder if this is a direct result of how hardware people is shrinking vertical screen resolution every half decade or so, but leave non-GNOME applications alone.

    The Libra-office proposal will screw it up for most other window-managers/DE.

  11. Why, the card I have now is 'out of support' as of this year, that means once I go to kernel 4.5+ their proprietary will no longer install. So I will need to use nouveau, which still has some minor issues, but I can deal with the screen 'flashs' I get.

    Nvidia promised to help with nouveau development, but so far nothing 'real' was done by them.

    So, no more Nvidia for me, going forward I will onoy use video vendors that support open source 100%.

    I am not be kidding. If that system is Intel, Slackware 14.2 will work great. I use it on a 2 core 4 gig memory machine and it is very fast.

    I have noticed LibraOffice 5.2 (since 5.0 came out) is sluggish. Outside of that, I would not notice anything on my machine.

    Yes there is. Aside from the hassle of configuring it, maintaining it, and troubleshooting it when it breaks, even "free" things like Let's Encrypt are not free. They will not give me a cert.

    I wish I had mod points, another nail in the 'fully free' or user based internet. If the page is static and no javascript crap then you should not have to get a cert.

    Yes I know your ISP could inject crap before serving it to someone, but you remind the ISP that is illegal.

    There is always lynx and USENET :) We should all move back to that.

  15. Does this brings up a another issue ? As fixes roll out what about Intel ME ? That is suppose to be on a somewhat modern 32 bit Intel processor. So I would think that ME will have these same issues.

    How would that get patched ? Can ME even access kernel memory on the main chip like meltdown can on VM ?

    Hope this does not keep you awake at night :)

  17. Well if Putin is not elected and thrown completely out of the government, then I might think there was a 2% chance this is true.

    Maybe a printer in the US was sub-contracted to print ballots with an X already in Putin's Box :)

    True, but if the complaints keep going to the FCC and this issue remains in the press, maybe congress-critters will start to worry their gravy train will end in 2018 :)

  19. BBC America's Orphan Black. The series ended this year, if you never heard of it, best you watch the first few episodes of Season 1 before you look to see what is is about. All I will say it is a SIFI type series that what goes on in it is either possible now or will be in the near future.

    Most people use cellphones for net access, but as people here (I hope) should know, using cell phones ensure everybody sees everything you are doing, no privacy

    The death of the desktop = death of general computing, and I would not be surprised if that direction is being pushed by various companies. This means people will be using locked down devices where you have no freedom and are watched by all large companies and gov.

    Loosing "General Computing" is even worse then losing Network Neutrality, that makes the NN struggle we are having irrelevant.

    To me it is "do not by NVIDIA period". The embedded video I have is NVIDIA and all security updates stop in 1 week (including updates for new Linux kernels). So I will need to use nouveau, whch still has some tearing issues on my system.

    So I will only buy systems which provides free source, which I think ATI will start doing soon.

    I guess it is time to spend some karma.

    The net neutrality rules were exploited by large corporations (especially Netflix, Google and Amazon)

    Really, I pay to get access to the net, now people need to pay my ISP to allow me to see their content ? Never mind these large ISPs got large tax breaks to run the cables.

    Comcast and other ISPs had a 20+ year lead on the net and now they are crying because some brand new companies came alone and are now eating their lunch! So much for the "free market working" phrase so many people yell about. Believe it or not, that is how the market is suppose to work. You do not innovate, you fail.

    Why is that bad, then we will know who not to vote for next year.
