In a nutshell, the US government claims it should not matter where the data is stored. What matters is whether the company can access that data in the US.
I have to agree with this, if the data is accessible to the US and it is a US based Company then I think the warrant should be valid. BTW, they have a warrant so I think they are following laws anyway.
Of course over the past few years the US is doing everything it can to give companies incentives to leave, so what is 1 more:)
I remember hearing very few people listen to voicemail on the phone. I know I never do. I just look at the call log and call people I know should I miss the call.
Have fun filling up my voicemail. BTW if the phone starts ringing for telemarketers or if telemarketers start texting me, into the river the phone will go.
Plus many proprietary business applications remain 32 bit and the vendor refuses to convert to 32 bit, mainly due to cost. Of course one of them I need to use zings right up to 4 gig instantly, so I am thankful that application is still 32 bit:)
Wish I had mod points, I agree with this sentiment, most people here know the issues, but without Facebook and Netflix it will be tough. Amazon is in the list, so that should help out a bit, but I think many people using Amazon will at least heard of Net neutrality.
You need to get the 'crazy' masses on Facebook riled up and get them posting:) Without Facebook most people will not know what is going on.
This is what I see happening if the ban goes into affect
1. traveler needs to register the Laptop with the TSA and pays $, maybe a yearly fee(?) 2. The TSA takes the device and maybe puts spyware on it along with a 'lock' or 'sticker' or something certifying the laptop is allowed 3. every so often it can be searched by the TSA or you have to get it re-certified 4. now you are allowed to take it with you
If business users are not allowed to work while flying I can see airline profits dropping and airlines complaining like crazy:)
Not with the US version of "bread and circuses", now people can get entertainment on their cell phones 24/7 and never have to care what is really going on around them. I almost wonder if the "Net Neutrality" fight is only to ensure this entertainment gets prioritized to keep people entertained without having to spend real money on bandwidth improvements. This way most people will will not care what is done in their country.
I hope they do not change their mind, large business will have a cow over this. Why, updates controlled by a third party, rental fees and what about travel, do you need to be connected to the internet at 35,000' ?
Office 365 system requirements for client connectivity gives you time to review your long-term desktop strategy
I did, when Windows 95 came out, went to a fairly new OS and never looked back. Nothing like loosing work many times per week to give me incentive. Granted I heard M/S is much better these days, but as someone mentioned, the spyware on W10 keeps a tiny smile on my face.
I forgot how I did this, but at work I set up the server where from home I would login to it with kermit and I would do something. The the remote server would call my system back were I could get in without having my phone # billed. At the time I was running Coherent 286.
The US will never be a leader in what to do with Climate Change the country keeps changing it's mind every 4 to 8 years. Other Countries need to get together and lead, ignoring the US. Even China and India are getting concerned from what I heard. So Sweden is doing the correct thing.
People in the US have a addiction to large gas guzzling Auto worse that the most hard core heron addict. The newest two excuses I hear is 1) They are higher and I can see better. 2) they are larger thus safer. Ignoring the fact with almost everyone is driving the same type auto those two excuses are irrelevant. Nevermind the strangle hold of the established Corporations.
Pres, Carter brought up Climate Change up as a big issue the late 70's and stated if work not started now. it be more difficult going forward. He even installed Solar Panels on the White House. When Regan came in the first thin he did was rip them down and said Carter was nuts. Since then the US have been going around in circles.
From the article looks like he may have helped 'laundered' money for someone, maybe a rival of Putin ? Wonder how much easier/harder laundering in Russia will become in today's climate ?
to be fair, playing with seeding in an area that gets a lot of rain is like pouring alcohol on a fire. May put it out or may explode or may work, depending on type and how poured:)
I too lived through that era, graduating a couple of years before 'hey!'. I knew only 3 people who had 8-tracks and 2 was in their cars. Maybe the 'hippie' gen people (~10 years older than me) may have bought 8-tracks for home use, one cousin much older than me had one. Outside of that, everyone had Vinyl at home.
BTW, after seeing how 8-tracks worked in my friend's car, I realized quickly they were a big waste of $:)
Why is infrastructure on the public Internet ? It is not like the internet existed when most of the US electric grid was 'designed' and built. It worked quite well for 70 or so years without the internet. And I will say I have experienced more blackouts over the past 10 years than I did in total before 1990.
What winter:) Last year it was a cool spring here in December, January and February with no snow. So far as of today it hardly went below freezing a couple of days and by now when I was young, we would usually have had a few light snow storms now, with maybe a permanent covering on our lawns of 2 inches (~5cm) or so.
I karma to burn

There are startups in the wings, we want to make sure they never grow.
Gee, I wonder if they test the way I test a new program I wrote. I use data I know will ensure a successful and quick test :)

Same here, FORTRAN.
Are gun manufacturers held responsible for deaths caused by their products ? I guess you know the answer now
This is when I wish I had mod points, maybe HAAS (History As A Service)
so I guess I can use all of "War and Peace" as my user name :)

unless there's a large skew, I would think that vote manipulation would be jumping to conclusions.
I agree and even distrowatch states:
They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions.

I was a heron addict once, but I turned my life around when I managed to switch to pelicans.
yes, misspelled heroin, but I cannot mod you up, whoever you are, you had me laughing for a while :)

Great for my heating bill anyway
