  1. Why would anyone buy this book? on How to Build a Better Browser · · Score: 1

IE is a product that stifled and almost derailed an entire industry with its lack of innovation and ill-conceived security policies (Active X anyone?). IMO, IE ranks down there with the worst user interfaces and user interaction policies ever conceived. Its even below Word with its default setting; "magically change dropdown menus just to annoy me."

Is this guy the moron that decided that the URL textbox should wipe out the contents of what you are typing if a page decides to load midway through entering your URL?

  2. Re:Point of Ruby + Qt? on RAD with Ruby · · Score: 1

Thanks for taking a cheap shot at a typo. I was at work, thus the lousy browser. I'm happy with Safari (includes spell check) thank you very much. And sorry I struck a nerve by making you try to come up with a use for Ruby and Qt.

  3. Point of Ruby + Qt? on RAD with Ruby · · Score: 1

Can someone please tell me what the advantage of Ruby+Qt is? I'm not knocking open source. I can see lots of use for commodity/infrastructure software. In fact I plan to open source a CRUD tool I needed to build for a project. But to pay the bills, I need to develop vertical. $1550+ seems a little steep just to maintain my intelectual advantage. Especially when I can do it for $379.

  4. Lets think this through on Live to be 1000 Years Old? · · Score: 1

If natural life expectancy was 1000 years, this doesn't reduce the chances of dying violently. In fact you will be 13 times more likely to die violently. According to http://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/odds.htm, you have a 1 in 23 chance of dying from "external" causes. If the average life span is 1000 years, then this increases the chances to 13 in 23, or more than 50%. Also, if we lived 1000 years, there would be alot more to gain from being agressive, so you would see significantly more social injustices. Would you want to be a peon for the next 1000 years, or would you rather pick up a gun and take your chances at a more lucrative future? If you're not, someone is, and you'll be the one in bondage. Thanks but I'll let God take me when he's ready for me.

  5. I love my Mac on Some iPod Fans Dump PCs For Macs · · Score: 1

I love my Mac, I love my Apple, in all the world, my Mac is best! I switched a year ago and will NEVER look back. I didn't switch because of iPod. I switched because I bought two or three applications in a row that just didn't run on my PC. PC software companies always have an excuse why their software doesn't work on your computer, "Oh, you bought this video card or that motherboard." Mac software companies have no excuse. And happily, they don't need any. Everything I've bought for my Mac has worked flawlessly. If only I could get full OSX drivers for my Canon MultiPASS F60 all-in-one. Oh well, its a piece of junk anyhow (new print head ever 4 months at $50 or so a pop.. fun fun!!), so maybe this is my excuse to move to an HP or Epson. Now, as a software developer, I wish I could use my .net expertise to develop apps for the Mac. Oh well, Java, Objective-C (Cocoa), C/C++ (Carbon), and RealBasic (after all the terrible comments I heard about RB, I was pleasently surprised with how well it worked, and also with the breadth of features that have been integrated into the language) will have to do. Did I mention that I love my Mac like I have NEVER loved any of my PCs? And I used to build them for a living.
