Because I'm buying or building a new computer other than a subnotebook. Between June 2008 and December 2096, Windows XP is not available on computers other than subnotebooks, and I want to use applications that work better under Windows Vista than under Ubuntu with Wine.
Sure you can.
Install your favorite bittorrent client
Go to thepiratebay.org
Search for and download 'Windows XP Professional Corporate' and 'WGA killer'
True. But if you say something the editors don't like, you can get 'bitchslapped' -- they run a script which mods a whole bunch of your posts to -1 so that you end up with negative karma. In essence, all your posts start out as -1. Still not the same as not being able to post -- unless they decide to ban your IP. But you have to do something pretty egregious to get bitchslapped or banned.
"Over and under rated also don't affect a person's karma."
Nope. They do affect a person's karma. They don't get meta-modded either. That's why they get used. If someone has a vendetta against you because you said something mean about their favorite toy or their favorite superhero or whatever and they have mod points, they can mod you down by modding you overrated, but metamods can't "fix" it, because under and overrated are not subject to metamod. So, the person with the vendetta can hurt your karma, but no one can hurt theirs for moderation abuse.
Any post that mentions the fact that in Soviet Russia, first posts mod YOU off-topic will get modded funny. This one will probably get modded funny as well.
Could I host 30 seconds legally, and you host 30 seconds legally, and Bob hosts 30 sec and Jill hosts 30 sec?
Everyone in the country could host 30 seconds of every track in the world.
Could this work?
No. "Fair Use" says that it's alright to use 30 seconds provided that it is used for the 'purposes of critique' or something like that. The basic idea is that it must be used as part of an original copyrighted work and that there is 'value added' in that copyrighted work.
No, he means the 'system tray', which is the closest equivalent to 'the dock' that exists on Windows. 'The dock' has been part of the Macintosh OS and user interface since its introduction in 1984. There have been plenty of imitators, such as the GNOME System Notification Area and The Windows 9x System Tray and the 'dock area' in so many other environments -- KDE, NeXTStep, OpenStep/GNUStep, XFCE, CDE, etc., but I don't think any of them predate the Mac's 'dock'.
The republican party targets older voters who are not likely to even own a computer.
WTF are you talking about? Both parties cater to all age ranges. Yes, the youth 'hipster' crowd are more likely to vote Democrat, but not necessarily so. There are plenty of Young Republicans, too.
Also, I know plenty of older people who have and know how to use a computer.
Did it come with DD-WRT pre-installed? Buffalo's come with DD-WRT pre-installed and cost is typically slightly cheaper than LinkSys, D-Link or Netgear.
I don't see anything in here that requires two separate companies.
You're right, but only in theory. It's a political problem, not a technical one. If the the fab and design are the same company, there will be pressure on design to use the fab group and there will be pressure on the fab to always do the design group's work. If the two companies are separate, the political pressure is a lot less.
Urban areas have a higher population of Latinos, typically. The state of Michigan by probably has a latino population of around 2-3%, but the Detroit area probably has a Latino population closer to 15-20%. (Just guessing, but I'm sure you could look this up)

Oh, the sweet, sweet irony!
BTW--your .sig seems oddly appropriate: "It's too bad that stupidity isn't painful." - Anton LaVey

Yeah, because the current moderation system never squashes unpopular opinions.
Don't believe me? Try making a comment that casts Apple, Linux, or Windows in negative light. (Except Vista. It's okay to disparage Vista. ;)
Your analogy completely breaks down; buggy whip manufacturers went out business because demand vanished. Here, demand isn't vanishing.
Except that:
I mean, unless the "lost to piracy" claims are figuring in these factors, then they're simply dead flat wrong.

Note that when they killed the Newton, they didn't have the Mighty Turtlenecked One, either.
I'm just sayin'.

So the answer is 'no'.
Whose a 'newbie'? I remember Slashdot before it even had moderation. Or user accounts.
Now get off my lawn.
so i guess it evens out, and besides, there's no price for biologists
Cool! Biologists are free as in beer! Can I have 10, please? Oh, and can you make them female? And cute, too.
No, no. The Nobel Prize wasn't actually established by Alfred Nobel, it was actually established by his brother Ig. Everyone knows that.
Everyone knows that BBQ sauce goes under the peace category.
That greatly depends on how spicy said BBQ actually is ...
Thanks! :-P
Well, I for one welcome our new fluorescent-green overlords!

This stereotypical image of old people as being technophobic is really out of date with the times.

[Am I the only one that thinks] sharing prizes on subatomic particles studies is ironic???
Maybe you are, maybe you are not. We won't know until someone observes your post, thus collapsing the waveform...

Mod parent up, please. He's exactly right.

Remember to tell Meghan to set VCR to tape Matlock reruns while I'm out of town.
There. Fixed it for ya.
