  2. Replacing Outlook and Office are the key apps on Outlook Inertia the Main Factor Holding Business From Google Apps · · Score: 0, Interesting

About 7 years ago, I did a Linux desktop pilot with a large ad firm in Chicago. It would have reduced their costs, improved reliability, etc. However, the IT Director at the time did everything she could to work against me. She wouldn't enable IMAP on the server, which made switching off of Notes impossible. Further more, OpenOffice was 1.0 and the compatibility with Office docs was terrible, and it's not a whole helluva lot better today. Almost every other app had a viable open source replacement, but the Office suite was the Achilles heel. If the open source community could get a full replacement for the Office suite, especially Outlook, it wouldn't be as hard to switch to Linux on the desktop. Maybe now that Oracle owns OpenOffice, we'll get better compatibility with Office files. However, compatibility isn't enough as "me too" products don't do very well in the market place. We need something that has enough "killer features" compelling enough to switch off of Office and Windows.

Well said, Locutus. The only reason IE has the market share that it is exactly because of bundling! People just double-click the blue IE their computer and they are on the 'Net. Add a few bookmarks and switching because a chore for most people. This guy at Mozilla is a fool for saying otherwise. I thought Mozilla employed smarted people than that. I mean, come on, Microsoft admitted in the Anti-Trust trial that they paid Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc NOT to bundle Netscape/Mozilla. Why do would they do that? Because bundling leads to market share and Microsoft was hoping to make it so that the Internet, a realm they can't control, only works well on IE/Windows!!! Wake the hell up people!

Would you say the "consensus" is that the world is round? No, because it would never occur to you to say that since the world being round is a verifiable fact. Global warming can't be precisely measured much less duplicated with all variables to make a long term prediction. Would you bet $100 what the temperature is going to be 2 weeks from now with a degree or two? Of course not. According to the fourth U.N. report, the environment is a coupled, chaotic, non-linear system and long term climate change is not predictable. That's what they (the U.N. IPCC) say.

It's a fictional "entertainment" book yes, however, it's has many facts, all backed up by legit data that refutes the claims of global warming. Do you even know when the "theroy" of global warming came to be? 1989, and guess what happened that year? 4 countries exploded Nukes, big earthquake in San Francisco, Berlin Wall fell, and there was a drout in the U.S. Bottom line is this: people believe what they want, and you believe that global warming exists. I live in Chicago and it's -10 wind chill right now. Think I believe in Global warming?
