...but not that advanced. A truly advanced hacker finds his own exploits instead of going on to rootshell or bugtraq to find one.
ZD says that they are going to apply the 21 rpms sometime soon and do the whole thing over again to make the matter more fair. Sounds like a good idea to me.
It's good to see that another state is taking a step forward towards science rather than a step forward toward creationism, in which there is no hard evidence that validates the matter.
While I do agree that Red Hat is anything but the best Linux distribution, the system obviously would have not been cracked as easily if the sysadmins had did their job and upgraded their packages. People should take this as a hint to fix security problems quickly, even if it is only your personal Linux box.
What Unisys did is absolutely ridiculous, because if they really had cared, they would have done something about it ages ago. I hope that GIF will be abandoned after this incident, because it is outdated and almost useless. Its only advantage is animation, but I don't think anyone will be missing "CATCH THE MONKEY AND WIN $20!"

...after that whole Hotmail incident where anyone could read anybody's mail off of some site (on hotmail, heh) without a password.
Ridiculous. I don't trust M$ one bit on this.

Why would there be a telnet port open if:
a. You can't telnet into your DC.
b. You can't telnet out from your DC.
It doesn't make sense.

Slashdot requires you to put crap in this box, so I'm putting crap here. *NT* means no text.

You could make a cheesy fighting game with the Linux penguin vs. the FreeBSD daemon. The daemon's special move would be a syslog attack. :P
