  1. Break easily! on New Business Card Rescue CDs · · Score: 1

I got one of these handed to me at the "Linux Demo Day" a few months back. First time I sat down on a hard chair I heard a distinct cracking noise. Sure enough, the thing had cracked into a million little pieces. It's a cool idea - but I don't know if they really do too well in a wallet :)

  2. Right on the mark on A Suit's Experience With Linux · · Score: 1

Well this guy seems to be almost right on the mark. Honestly, if my 77 year old Mom can use Linux to send her distant relatives, anyone can. Software reaches a point where it really doesn't matter what OS it is on. As long as it does what it is supposed to, and does it well, an OS will suffice for the majority of people.

  3. Re:IP masquerading support? on FreeBSD 4.0 Code Freeze · · Score: 1

If you're looking for an *easy* solution to share an internet connection try something like this (assuming you are using a PPP connection): ppp -background -alias isp. The -alias isp stuff is setup in the ppp.conf (similar to a linux ppp.conf). Granted this doesn't provide any firewall functions, but DAMN it's easy and works GREAT.

p.s. - just set your linux/windows box's default GW to the ip of the FreeBSD box and you're all set!

  4. What's the big secret? on Documents Unsealed in Microsoft/Caldera Case · · Score: 2

It would be interesting to know what part of the company was so secret? Marketing has always been the most important part of Microsoft's business plan (even over the product, imagine that). Maybe even plans for taking over competitors (Netscape, obviously Caldera). Perhaps there are some juicy Windows secrets - not that anyone would care all that much. Most likely it's a Halloween type thing, and personally that has all gotten a bit old to me.

  5. in it for the money on LinuxOne Lite: First Looks · · Score: 2

Hmm..could it be they are just in it for the money? As Linux continues to grow in both the corporate and consumer sections as it has over the past year, I expect to see more and more companies trying to cash in by simply repackaging an existing product.

  6. What does this lead to? on Dolly Cloning Method Patented · · Score: 1

Is every scientific break through from now on going to be patented like this? Luckily in the case of Linux the GPL has prevented things of this nature. We'll just have to see...

  7. It's always good... on Linus Explains Linux Trademark Issues · · Score: 2

...to explain yourself. That is really something I like about open source in general. Most of the time people are open and honest and do not try to hide anything.

  8. Not Uncommon in W. Michigan on View from the Censorware Trenches · · Score: 1

Unfortunately the events in Holland are not uncommon in West Michigan these days. All over this area these types of debates are raging, although luckily most or none of these towns have ordinances which allow any issue to go to ballot. The major driving force between nearly every political issue in this part of the state is religion, it seems. One can be sure that these are the same people who protested again Dr. Jack Kevorkian and his suicide machine. There will always be some issue around here that, on the surface will seem to be about one topic, but at the core is really about personal moral/religious values. To someone who lives in the area this is not really surprising or shocking, actually it is almost expected and I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll hear about it.

I concur. Rarely do you read about everything this man does. Everything from writing kernel code to helping lowly newbies on the mailing lists. Not to mention organizing releases, etc. He gets my vote.
