  1. Re:Lack of coherency regarding backwards compat. on Ask Sony's Phil Harrison About PS3 and Games · · Score: 1

Don't tell me that the Xbox 360 BC was worse, that's not what I asked about. About the EU PS3s, 1000 is little more than 40% of the PS2 titles released (if the 1000 figure refers to PS2 games, which I think it does). Sony also said that they will not give much importance to backwards compatibility on the european PS3. If you think about these facts, my original question makes sense as it's written, no?

Sony criticized the Xbox 360 for not providing full backwards compatibility with the Xbox, and it was said that the PS3 would offer 100% BC. It was recently announced that that won't be the case. What was the reason for changing stance on backwards compatibility?

It's also living up to the "pain in the ass to program" stories too, but that just makes some of us want to take a shot at it even more. But that's still not enough motivation to spend $500 - $600 to screw around with it, even though the programmers could afford it.

The funny thing is, if many programmers get a PS3 for that purpose and don't buy any games, Sony's losing a heck of a lot of money.

According to Sony, it's because their Supply Chain Management is very good. For some unknown reason, that doesn't explain the low-market share though. I'm sure their PR department will think of a better excuse next time. Maybe not.
