You'll perhaps notice that states/counties with large cities nearly always have much higher taxes than more rural states/counties. In other words, if I live in a small town that is not politically dependent on a big city, I pay less taxes. Who is leeching off whom?
The credit card companies charge as much as they can, and I chose the company that gives me the best rates. The companies that have more costs can't have lower interest rates and don't get my business. The credit card market is somewhat competitive.
