    If they opened the source and it was GPL compatible, they'd be able to harness all of the platforms Linux already supports and they'd be able to coordinate the companies that produced BeOS software in fact they might just challenge the Gnome Foundation and KDE League in a good old capitalistic contest to see who can the most ass.

    In which case they would be profitable.

    Just imagine Debian/BeOS... "dr00l"

    I beg to differ. The mouse epands everything to dozens of minute actions that must be performed in sequence to perform the smallest task. It's horrible. Foolproof, but horrid.

    Where are the handpainted games? Show me a video card that can paint a sketch using a Postscript style language of brushstrokes.

    Get the mouse away from the games. Mouse bad, except for fire and run and strafe.

    Make a pick up pad. Show me a bunch of objects that I can pick up from a pad so I don't have to fill my screen with stuff. Even perhaps to send my inventory to a PDA.

    Uh no try again.

    It wasn't at all about the 10,000 licenses. That was just a stupid detail that the writer put in because it's standard practice to put in stupid details just like it's standard practice to put in stupid clip art in newcast. The question is what you're allowed to do with those 10,000 copies.

    And Alaska Airlines wanted people to be able to reach those 10,000 copies over a network.

    Are you going to charge me for a license because my ISP uses NT?

    I don't get this crap about not being able to use software over networks. It's a necessity in many environments nowadays. If I have two joysticks for a game I can play it with two people in the room but I can't serve the game to players over a network. Or I can use two joysticks for a game but I can't use use two keyboards for one computer, much less a network. What about using VNC? Anyways good bye cruel PC. I'm going Amiga and I'll stick to making music and demos. This is getting ridiculous.

    They go into a tizzy at even the mildest attempt to prevent children from being used for pornography on the internet and say write half the western hemisphere in protest.

    That is because it can't be prevented by brute force. And I don't mean brute as in professional wrestler. I'm referring to that simplistic irrational utopian purism characteristic of modern day victims turned into idiots. Any attempt to prevent the impossible by brute force thinking is guaranteed to cause harm by definition. That's why the courts care whether a law is enforceable or not.

    It always goes like this:

    1. Criminal commits crime.
    2. Victims try to restrict criminals.
    3. Total restriction is impossible.
    4. Therefore victims will never be satisfied.
    5. Politician responds to to eternally unsatisfied victim's concerns.
    6. Politician must take serious actions because victims are extremely unsatisfied beyond reason.
    7. Non criminals get hurt.
    8. Victims are reduced to irate idiots who don't care about the rest of the world around them.
    9. Politician stays in power.
    10. Criminals remain unrestricted. Go to step 1.
