  1. I agree! on 'South Park' Creators in Web Deal · · Score: 1

Im serious moderator types, these things are probably the funniest things Ive read in quite some time! That other poster who gets into the hot grits in one's panties is going a bit too far, but I think this ACs posts, while a bit off topic, are freakin hillarious!

Is it possible to be >0 and marked Offtopic? How about 1, Funny?

    Moderate em up!!!

  2. Good, yes. A complete fix? No. on Doom Source Now Under GPL · · Score: 3

They quote Carmack (or someone else at id) as saying "Now everyone has to open up their source." That's not necessarily true. If someone got the Doom source before this license change and made some proprietary changes to it, they are not required to comply with the GPL. They are completely entitled to use the software according to the original license if they choose.

Imagine if Microsoft gave you a copy of MS Office with a site license, and then said "Ha! We just changed the license! Now you have to pay us One million dollars! They can do that, but only on new purchases/downloads of their software. They can not make you comply with a new license for software that you are already using according to another license.

This is a very good thing. Unfortunately, if people were not contributing back changes and improvements before, simply changing the license to the GPL now wont necessarily fix that. It will stop it from happening in the future, though. I still applaud this decision in license change, good work id.

  3. Most important section: on Transmeta Awarded Another Patent · · Score: 1

As a comparison, one embodiment of the present invention designed to run all available X86 applications is implemented by a morph host including approximately one-quarter of the number of gates of the Pentium Pro microprocessor yet runs X86 applications substantially faster than does the Pentium Pro microprocessor or any other known microprocessor capable of processing these applications.

The fact that this was at least started in '96 explains why they only compare against the PPro.

This has already been pointed out, but look ma! I can use bold in HTML!
The fact that they say "any other known microprocessor" is scary to say the least. I'm glad Linus had enough trust in what they're doing to work for them, it sounds like awesome stuff. I just hope this doesn't stay vaporware for very much longer =P.

If this does come out as a motherboard/processor solution, I hope they're going to use the standard ISA/PCI/AGP combo we know and love.

  4. Krabber for you KDE folks on Ask Slashdot: What's the Best MP3 Encoder? · · Score: 1

Personally I like Krabber, even though I don't use KDE myself (Im a WindowMaker guy). It uses BladeEnc I believe, and it's got a nice GUI (I haven't tried a recent copy of grip though).

  5. eBay is... on Ask Slashdot: Is the United States Postal Service Obsolete? · · Score: 1

singlehandedly keeping the Post Office in business. Everything I buy from eBay is paid for via USPS money order, and a good 80% of the things I buy are shipped to me via it. Online auctions are most definitely helping increase the Post Offices' business, even if their actual letter delivering is going down.

  6. Erg on The Matrix to have two sequels · · Score: 1

I hope it didn't just post that one line comment, that would suck...

Anyway, I loved the matrix, it's got to be my favorite movie of all time. Hopefully the next movies will have more short of the computer screens so I can improve CMatrix and jwz can improve xmatrix. Let's hope that Morpheus and Trinity play big roles in the next movies; Neo may be the chosen one but the movie would have not been the success it was without the talent of the rest of the cast.

  7. Actually... on Interview with Good Software Group Founder · · Score: 1

I thought it was pretty funny. Does that mean I'm a bad person, or that I simply have a sense of humor in a forum where everyone takes everything way too seriously. Lighten up people, it's only life =).

  8. Kernel Slashbox! on Linux 2.3.2 Released · · Score: 3

I agree with the previous poster about this. A Linux kernel slashbox would rock! Id have it as my first one listed, you could have a script that reports the current stable and devel kernels as links that would by default take you to linuxhq or something.
