I can't help thinking that that would give a serious over-estimation of IE users, since those who use the Internet alot (and hence aren't running the streets all day long) more often use A Good Browser(tm).
Well, this test hasn't included log analyzers - it's simply hit statistics services. I don't have access to any server logs, so I'm not able to do such a comparison either.
Blah blah blah. You forget the people who get Firefox off a CD, eiter made by a friend or bundled with a magazine.
I'm sure the number of users must be more than 124 million!
I haven't got any hard stats to show you, since i can't be bothered to find any, but I get the impression this is the situation:
Firefox is used about 5 % in the US, IE about 90 %.
In Europe the usage of Firefox is higher, specially in Germany and France. Here the number is more like 10 % iirc.
These days I think saying it has Firefox would do more good than saying it has Netscape. Firefox has a much better reputation - Netscape seems to (somewhat unfairly so) be having a hard time ridding people of the memory of it's good old bad days.
I know, this is kind of like asking for world peace, but heck, it's a start! Yeah, I agree ;-)

When you say 'observing HTTP traffic', do you mean normal hitcounter services with code which you insert into you HTML? I'm a little confused.

That's a good question. Maybe I'll look into it. Do you have MSN Explorer installed?
Use statcounter - as far as I know it's the best, period. (It's also invisible!)

See my above reply. Firefox & Mozilla never do more than 8 requests. Setting a higher value is pointless.
Only, Firefox ignores values above the maximum 8, that is, it only ever does a maximum of 8 requests (or whatever).
Heh.
Yes, I sure hope so, since this seems pretty serious.
I have the same feeling, although if they do succeed with this Netscape 8 hybrid thing (and they keep Gecko as default) it could be a good thing.

The planned release is only a beta, not a final as the /. summary makes it out to be.
And acknowledging a telling off for replying to a FP is how bad?
True
