Actually the DC-DC convertors are quite a complicated devices that convert the DC power to AC, then use a transformer for conversion to AC with another voltage and then convert it back to DC. As stated in an another reply, this process is efficient only with a definite load.
I agree with your points, but as you mention memory allocation errors, it reminds me of the "infamous OOM killer" in linux. This is a part of the VM code that assures the memory allocations always succeed and makes these checks unnecessary. I dont know if such tools exists on other operating systems, but i they do - my proposal is to make use of them.

As an aside, people have used all kinds of excuses to do horrible things and just because they tried to justify it by saying God said to do it, doesn't mean that God actually said to do it.
But God is in us (as the bible also does say), so what we do is actually what He does through us.
I think the people in the future will be intelligent enough to read information no matter what format it is written. The same refers to us - we can decode and read ancient texts written hundreds of years ago, even though they are badly damaged. Our successors will be able to take the dust remaining from a buried CD and recover the information written on it. And, they will be able to make and use a suitable hardware the same way we can make and use hammers and bows today:)
Actually "fuck" is an international word like "internet" for example. I often hear the word from my friends and I even use it sometimes, although I live in Bulgaria. I think it is used in other non-english-talking countries too.

Actualy the world cares most of the time about food, drink, sex, work and stuff. People do not want war and no country will start a war. People want money. Only America itself can do such a silly thing as starting a war (but there is a little chance of it either). They spend a lot of money fighting with someone, but they can just give him that money and this way make him friend (and a slave!). The terrorists are POOR. They are a people that have nothing to lose. Give them a credit card and they will sit still in front of their TV watching serials and munching chips. The rich funders of the terrorist organizations will not grab a bomb and go to a kamikadze mission.
And something else. I support the theory that the nuclear weapons bring peace. No one will start a nuclear war, considering the consequences. Actually they make any kind of war senseless, because the classical war weapons and tactics are of no use in the nuclear war.
