Good question, easy answer. This isn't about strategic planning or conforming to standards. It's all about 'incentives'/bribes. Our corpocracy grows increasingly more corrupt and this is just another simple example. Bleat sheep bleat.
So do you always blindly vote Republican? Have you ever been pregnant? Are your taxes lower now that we have a Republican president? Do you care what's accomplished with your tax dollars? Or do you just want to pay less? Do you support illegal and unjust invasions of sovreign countries? Should awareness of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny be taught as part of middle school science? Are you a complete idiot?
This must be taught in our schools:
"Before time began there was no heaven, no earth and no space between. A vast dark ocean washed upon the shores of nothingness and licked the edges of night. A giant cobra floated on the waters. Asleep within its endless coils lay the Lord Vishnu. He was watched over by the mighty serpent. Everything was so peaceful and silent that Vishnu slept undisturbed by dreams or motion.
From the depths a humming sound began to tremble, Om. It grew and spread, filling the emptiness and throbbing with energy. The night had ended. Vishnu awoke. As the dawn began to break, from Vishnu's navel grew a magnificent lotus flower. In the middle of the blossom sat Vishnu's servant, Brahma. He awaited the Lord's command.
Vishnu spoke to his servant: 'It is time to begin.' Brahma bowed. Vishnu commanded: 'Create the world.'
A wind swept up the waters. Vishnu and the serpent vanished. Brahma remained in the lotus flower, floating and tossing on the sea. He lifted up his arms and calmed the wind and the ocean. Then Brahma split the lotus flower into three. He stretched one part into the heavens. He made another part into the earth. With the third part of the flower he created the skies.
The earth was bare. Brahma set to work. He created grass, flowers, trees and plants of all kinds. To these he gave feeling. Next he created the animals and the insects to live on the land. He made birds to fly in the air and many fish to swim in the sea. To all these creatures, he gave the senses of touch and smell. He gave them power to see, hear and move.
The world was soon bristling with life and the air was filled with the sounds of Brahma's creation."
Yea good point - I tend to agree. As much as the train-wreck loving, devil worshipping half of me wants to see the whack-jobs in power go after Iran, the rational half says it ain't gonna happen.
Most home pc users could give two shits whether they're running Windows or Linux. But what they do care about is the applications that get the job, whatever it might be, accomplished for them. Building open-source software on top of kdelib or qt or ? means more than building it for "Linux". Sorry to beat the dead horse, but it's the apps and not the OS that will infiltrate the desktop. This is at least a reasonable strategy to make some inroads into providing more choices for regular people.
The iRiver fp799 is a 1GB player with fm tuner that comes with a neck band and arm band. Uses one AA battery. Plays Ogg Vorbis also - should be able to find between $200 and $250. I have one - I highly recommend.

Probably 18 months more than Ken Lay will receive.

Wow, you're a geek and a religious zealot. Congratulations!
