My husband and I saw a straight band of shadow like this one a few years ago in Stockton, California. We were unable to see anything that might cause it. The phenomena was within our sight for about three minutes.
However, we didn't see any flash at the base of it, as the bottom of the shadow was lost in the buildings of the city.
