Actually, this is from Adequacy.org (which is now an archive-only website). See http://www.adequacy.org/public/stories/2001.12.2.4 2056.2147.html for the story.

They have some pretty funny stuff on there. The sad part is that some people actually believed it.

Linux has it's place and it is not on the desktop, yet.
How do you expect corporations to adopt Linux if it is not taught in our schools? Perhaps schools are the first step in making the transition. How will software developers support Linux if the schools do not first make the move to integrate the operating system into their curriculum?

Personally, I think that after I shell out $50 for a game, and, in the case EverQuest II, pay $15 a month (I am actually a WoW subscriber), I do not want people to be able to obtain the "uber" new sword without going through all of the work that I did. If they are a casual gamer, fine, but they still should have to go through the same work that I did. I feel cheated in a way when the things I worked very hard for are dynamically generated and sold by a corporation (Sony).

I agree, handwritten notes capture the professor's lesson anyway, how is that any different from storing the information through a different medium (which could be potentially more beneficial to you)?

I did some more research, and it appears now that IPB 2 does support PHP 5, but 1.x does not. I am looking forward to phpBB 3, looks like it is going to turn out really nicely.

Another thing mentioned was cPanel. cPanel in its current version does not work with PHP5, although I believe it is in production.

This is all part of the transition.

At the moment, not many shared web hosts support PHP5. I know that recently I bought "PHP5 and MySQL Bible" and learned about the many of the new features, but I was dissapointed to find out that a lot of the hosts out there right now do not support the new version.

For now, you will either have to scavenge the internet to find a host that supports it, or wait until it becomes more mainstream.

Another reason I believe that many hosts are not making the switch is that many popular PHP software has not been upgraded to support PHP5. phpBB, InvisionBoard, and the like all support PHP4, but have mainly 3rd party versions for PHP5. Why make the switch when most do not support the updated version?
