I read another interview a while back and also read the ranting in 2600 magazine from various "virus writers". I love hearing them say that people should be protect there computers. If I was in a room with a known active virus writer, I would sucker punch he/she so quick they would be stunned. I would then inform them they should of been wearing a helmet, you know, protection against unseen things.
Kudos does go out to the dude who did the first (IIRC) virus that announced some Apple thing, way back before internet. It was an amazing concept to come up with. Too bad it morphed into the nasty things that they are now.

I'm a displaced Canadian living in the states. I'm absolutely amazed at the constant demand for my SSN. If you get a phone or any utilities, you must provide an SSN. Heck, I rented a washer/dryer at an apartment in Dallas and they wanted my SSN. Amazingly they forget the file folder with my credit history after they installed the washer/dryer (a few days before I moved in). Needless to say I now have a copy of my credit report (excellent, I must say).
In Canada, since the mid 90's it has been illegal to use an SSN (called SIN, social insurance number, in Canada) for anything other than employment and income related, uaually banking (for interest reporting). Even within the various government agencies, an effort has been made to create a new identifying key that is NOT your SSN.
Fucking utilities and every Tom Dick and Harry wants your SSN because it makes there keys and system identifiers easier for them. Screw you, the consumer, if some disgruntled employee or poorly implemented system allows some hacker access to your name, birthday, and SSN.
Once your identity is stolen it is now your problem.

You can't blame the author (unless they had total control) of the SciFi series.
I've never seen so many cliches packed into 2 hours. I only watched the first part.
I haven't read the books and after seeing what I saw, I don't think I will.
