    If you're running the fourth most powerful supercomputer in the world you are not saving energy. Period.

    Get this type of 'efficiency' running on mobile & portable devices and laptops first. Then you can claim some sort of energy related victory.

    Wow. Just wow. At first I thought there was gonna be a 'geek' joke in there somewhere. But after reading it several times I realized that maybe, just maybe, there was something wrong with that guy. Wow.

    efficient. I mean if you consider any unit of computation vs energy expended. I bet my current desktop computer would compare from a computation point of view to a super computer from the late 80's. (GFLOP to GFLOP) However my current computer pulls about 300W, I'm pretty sure that's alot better than any super computer from the 80's that would compare to it.

    300W? I'm pretty sure a coffee maker from the 80's was even that efficient.

    I spent years working with PowerPC ... and then took it in the backside when Apple switched camps to Intel x86. With the resurgence of RISC in the mobile market I may be able to use some of my RISC experience.

    I still think RISC is the better all around architecture approach. We used to play around with 'chip simulators' by using the plentiful registers in the RISC chips to hold the registers of the smaller RISC chips we were simulating. Great for VM's, too. Ahh, those were the days.

    I've always been a big fan of RISC. I even have a copy of ARM System Architecture (c) 1996 by one Mr Steve Furber I pulled out of the basement of Strand Books quite a while ago.

    BTW, this restricts independents from contracting work from brokers who are suppling talent to a client. It does not affect an independent who contracts with the client directly.

    An interesting point. In this day and age, if we landed on a planet that had pigs and cows, we might "study their culture", or "bring them democracy", but we damn sure wouldn't be allowed to kill and eat them.

    Didn't South Park already bring democracy to the cows with a giant cow clock?

    I concur. Like any alien race would be using anything less than a 256 bit instruction set architecture. When's Apple gonna come out with one of those, huh? I thought so. I'm still waiting for a 256 bit FSB!

    Well, to be fair, there are enough significant asses in Washington DC to warrant that kind of infrastructure investment there.

    You do realize that the plans were unworkable, the designs flawed ...

    If I had a nickel for every time I heard that from a client I'd be able to make a sizable enough donation to NASA that they could get their Constellation program back on the books.

    I don't think it is bad design that is in question, but content.

    Duly noted. Though most content isn't much better than the sites themselves.

    I wonder why they aren't trying to get Facebook, MySpace, et al, to permanently archive everything ever posted there for historical purposes ... what am I saying? They already do. Those places are like pictures documenting the nights of bad drinking ... and they're primed to be blackmail fodder 'til the end of time.
