OK, so I'm a dumbass... I claim "no coffee" and "I just had to scoop the cat box" as reasons my brain wasn't functioning on a full 3 1/2 cylinders this morning.
If Linux isn't for nerds then who is it for? House fraus whose TV's are on the blink? Unrelenting overlords of evil corporate empires? Has-been movie starts and their hippie dippie 60 something rockstar friends? Well, maybe all of them, but especially nerds.
Not a boycott, just me refusing to buy a product which isn't likely to deliver to the expectations I have of it. I'm not advocating everyone boycott the series or what ever.
A personal choice based on your own wants and needs? And you're not pushing others to follow you? Please stop being reasonable, this is Slashdot and we don't take kindly to your types around here.
Which carriers will sell the Modu? Will the Modu phones be sold/subsidized by the carrier? Who will be willing to sacrifice their phone preference for this netbook feature?
BTW, the Modu website catalog is annoying as hell.
They're going to provide "dedicated game servers" for now. As soon as the next installment nears release they'll trim back the servers to shared servers in order to "encourage" players to buy the new version.
Don't worry, if you're nominated for a judicial position I'll vote for you. I think we'd all benefit from some/. perspective coming down from the bench.;-)
This demonstrates how 'fragile' these devices really are (from a software/OS perspective). It's not like a tower that we can pop open, tinker futz and fuss until they're fixed. This also makes it clear that it won't take much to disable the software on a device - and possibly the networking & phone features - if some virus or malformed code makes its way to the device.
Even faster than current generation discrete GPUs? I think not.
They'll move data inside the chip instead of having to send it off to the internal bus, they'll have access to L2 cache (and maybe even L1 cache), they'll be running in lock-step with the CPU, etc, etc. These have distinct advantages over video cards.
With IE 9 headed toward GPU assisted acceleration, these types of "hybrid" chips will make things even faster. Since AMD's main enduser is a Windows user, and IE 9 will probably be shipping later this year, these two may be made for each other.
Of course every other aspect of the system will speed up as well, but I wonder how this type of CPU/GPU package will work with after market video cards? If you want a better video card for gaming, will the siamese-twin GPU bow to the additional video card?
Sure it would be great to find your lost loved one in the event of some natural disaster. And it would be nice to be able to track and find your kids when they're late for dinner or in the event of some foul play. But this is way to apt for abuse. If you think stalkers can get too much information on someone now you just wait until they can track you 24/7 via your new best friend RFID!
The success is all very nice and all, but what was the disputed issue?
The actual dispute is irrelevant... Linux won a patent suit and that's all we care about. A patent troll lost and will have to pay court costs. Double bonus points!
I'm sure getting the house raided and the guy near arrested tops that.
Not according to Steve Jobs;-)
She did it to avoid getting caught up in the rest of this sht. Seems like she was the only one who thought that this could come back to bite them in the ass. She was right.
how much would it really take to add a phone to a 3DS?... only issue I could see would be adding an antenna.
It may take a few other basic components, an OS that can do more than play a game, etc, etc... and don't forget the DS Phone Game cartridge "now only $39.95!"
Obviously the mods didn't take you very seriously, did they? BTW, calling someone an 'asspie' is no way to make friends, not even on /.
I'm pretty sure I deserved every "O" I got based on how badly I missed the joke
Whoosh indeed.

F@ck! Here's the correct link: Modu website.

You can pull the drive, test it on another computer, use a file manager to remove or replace files, etc. Surely I didn't have to explain that?

Seriously. What part of prior do they not understand?
The part about them not inventing or developing it ... or being able to profit from it by suing people.
The success is all very nice and all, but what was the disputed issue?

Here's the slashdot story about the court victory
Here's a link to the post that details the patents
They're probably worried about some legal complications ... or even German WiFi police ;-)
New portmanteau : Google + Oops! = Goops!
But to his defense he can claim he was trying to verify ownership of the item.
I've said it before and I'll say it again If Woody had gone right to the police, this would never have happened.
Not to mention that you can't use a digital camera to "make a copy of the phone". It's a digital camera, not a replicator.
Hey, it's the new 4G iPhone - anything is possible!

Looks to me like Apple is getting on everyone's enemies list. HTC, Google, Adobe, Nintendo ... who's next?
Ralphie Wiggam: Hi Super Nintendo Chalmers!
... so Flash isn't completely dead for video on the web. I wonder if Hulu and Adobe are in cahoots?

Wow, that iPad Killer comes with a free can of Coke? That's pretty impressive. It looks like a Franklin Electronics address book.
