    Please, enough of the iPad. I'm a Mac user, and I find the iPad a potential tool for some of my clients, but enough already.

    I can't think of anything that has gotten this type of media hype ... and for what? 48 hours of availability? It's going to take a lot longer than two days to decide if the iPad is well suited for its market niche or if its going to run into problems. Failure is much easier to measure, but determining success takes time.

    Seeing people posting about what they're doing does not predict what they are doing, it documents it. This is just another attempt at justifying all the wasted electrons used for this social media sh!t.

    BTW, after seeing all the posts online about how many people hate the iPad even before it came out should have predicted it wouldn't sell at all - even though it seems to have sold pretty well so far. I guess their theory didn't predict that their theory failed. Oh wait, now that I've posted this it does predict it.

    Just because Google is making real inroads into the mobile phone market doesn't mean that Apple is going to counter by trying to start a search engine. What's next, a rumor of Google's new Android based gPad?

    I suppose the important questions for you to ask before welcoming this robot girlfriend into your life will be:
    * Does she run Linux?

    * What flavor of Linux would be best for a robot girlfriend? (and, no, you can't use 'GirLinux')
    * Will she still be considered 'female' once she's running Linux or will she be reset to a virgin teenage boy?
    * What type of DRM will she have?
    - What will the pirate hack to break her DRM be called?
    * And last, but not least, can she be programmed not to dump you?

    This can't really surprise anyone. I'm sure there are plenty of things our government has kept from us either "for our own good" (their rationale for hiding their actions) and for national security reasons (we can't disclose everything). But how much do we really want to know? No matter how much they tell us we always suspect more ... and the conspiracy theorists will only use the truth to build even more elaborate plots of imaginative intrigue and nefarious actions.

    I am numbed by the lengths that these game developers go to try to stop piracy. I completely understand the need to protect their investment and product, but not at the expense of their paying customers. This seems like a ridiculous tale of a snake eating itself and smugly stating "see, I told you so" as it takes its last bite.

  13. Not All Books Will Be Priced Equally on Amazon Caves To Publishers On eBook Pricing · · Score: 2, Interesting

    I don't think the predicted $14.99 price will be for all eBooks, though it will probably be the 'release price' when new titles come out by big name authors (and maybe some or all of the textbooks). If the eBook version is more expensive than the paperback version then I think we'll see eBooks sales stall.

    I think the shift to the eBook model will affect the publishing industry's current practice of releasing a hardcover first (at a higher price) and then a paperback once the hardcover has run its course. We're not going to get rid of hardcovers all at once but there will probably be more 'straight to paperback' titles than we're used to now.
