  1. I have a solar power setup and it not all that. on DIY Solar Resources? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Ok here is my 2 cents worth. Not to discourage anyone but solar panels are incredibly complicated and hugely expensive. I have a very large 2Kw array on my house. I ended up spending over $28,000 on it. And I don't have a single battery to store power with. I use net metering. I am still tied in to the electrical grid. My array only makes power when there is enough sunlight and that is about 8-10 hours a day. I live in Florida so I get a fairly decent amount of sunlight throughout the year. Of course I also work a 9-5 job so I am not home most of the time the panels are making power but with the net metering it just spins the power meter backwards and credits me. I have electric bills anywhere between $0 - $35 dollars now. In the cooler months I have actually had a credit from not running the a/c so my bill is balancing out to $0. From start to finish it took about 3 months to design, plan, order, and have it all installed. You have to have a licensed installer install everything or you will not get the rebate here in Florida. But I was told the state rebate fund ran out of money and so I am still waiting for my refund! I still have a seperate backup generator for when the power goes out which tends to be frequently around here.

  2. The Military did the same to me on Getting Rid of Staff With High Access? · · Score: 1

When I was in the Military my last post was at a secure communications station. The kind with man traps, armed guards, windowless rooms under ground and the whole nine yards. I had a top secret security clearance with an SBI (Special Background Investigation). It took 2 years to get my security clearance. I was scheduled to transfer and reenlist in 2 months but I changed my mind. It was no longer fun anymore. The day I changed my mind about reenlisting they stripped my security clearance, my building access, communications network access, computer network access, everything. After a week of sitting on my ass in the barracks because I could no longer go to work I went to the commanding officer and told him here is my home address and phone number. That is where I will be if you need me and got on a plane and went home. A few months later my dd-214 (military discharge papers) showed up in the mail. It was like a 2 month paid vacation on Uncle Sam.

  3. Re:How about "Linux" as in the Sharp line of PDA's on Limitations in Current Breed of Palm Handhelds? · · Score: 1

I agree up to a point. But I personally prefer Linux. I think it is a matter of preference, but also what your current options are. If you buy your own then your options are what ever is available on the market. But if you company supplies you then you do not have much choice. And most big companies want to single source all of there computer assets. And most big computer suppliers are in bed with the "evil" microsoft. Competition is good in that it drives the market place to innovate but it is hard to complete against a monopoly.

I currently use a Sharp Sl-5600 PDA. I love the little guy. It has an SD memory slot AND a CF slot. I have a 512 Mb SD card for all my files. Straight out of the box there was applications to read Word files and Excel files, as well as a decent text editor. I too had the problem you described with the ability to read and transport files. Plus the capability to do just about anything with a cf card is a huge plus. Just my humble opinion.
