    Content? It seems to me that all newsgroups relay ascii. If one doesn't like the content of the ascii, one doesn't have to read or archive it. It sure isn't a binary until the recipient takes action on the content.

    The way I see it is no NNTP server relays any binary content.

    What am I missing?

    I would have to agree with you here. I still use an Adaptec 2940uw on an old Iwill P200 motherboard. At the time I built this system it was faster then anything else I had used. I could burn cd's from disk or CD, Print, v.90 connect and work on a large Photoshop image and never skip a beat. I haven't played the upgrade game with this box. When I compare it to many of the ATA systems I have built and support (athlon 900's ect) there's not much difference. Not talking about video speed, but disc intensive work. I *know* if this was an IDE box, it would be in the junk shack years ago.

    I agree. I don't know of 1 ham that doesn't hold on to all types of "boat anchors". I know a number of them that use C64's for packet. Plus there's allways the salvage guys that allways have good stuff!

    Yes.. the bad old daiz. 1200bd 1/2 duplex and major packet collisions. 18 hour FTP's to UCSD to get 300k update of NOS. I live in the sticks and had to run it to get email.

    I still have anode on the hill. It's a rare day when it does anything that isn't store and forward stuff.

    Even most el cheapo walmart portable CD players (the $39.00 type) have optical output. Easy to grab a digital output with this method.

    As far as what your favorite encoder might due with the copy is the real question. IE: have they written errors to the digial code that messes with encoding?

    That's the real question.

    The only thing used in the auxed card (the remote) is the ASIC. It isn't directly exposed to the datastream, and it hasn't ever been written to by NDC (yet). For now, and probably forever it's (the card) is untouchable.

    They have figured out how to emulate using a computer interfaced to the IRD. All this work and they still haven't cracked the ASIC or generated
    a ZKT.

    For all or our Canadian friends, this isn't good
    news for the H card. Probably closer to a card swap then we know.

    My Garmin Legend (using WAAS) is "much" more accurate then 3 cars speedos I have tested (Saab, Volvo and a Ford). All three vehciles have OE sized tires. The worse offender is the Saab which is off apx 8 mph at 55mph. All confirmed using the local cops radar. Point is, driving a straight line I'd trust it over my cars speedo.

    Most GPS(r) is receive only. Most don't transmit data (other then via rs232).

    Actually, you can easily add the 30-sec. skip feature to the TiVo. While you're in a show (not in the menu system) hit the following key sequence.

    select - play - select - 3 - 0 - select

    You'll hear an audio confirmation if you have the bloop-bloop noises on. On version 1.3.

    I also thought I heard about this function on 60 minutes one evening. The fact remains, they removed this when the upgraded to version 2.0.

    They're still not fixing the 30 second skip. If I owned (and I don't) I can imagine how pissed I would be if my upgrade removed that "bug".

    Wrong. There *is* no EULA when you buy a DirectTV receiver. The smart card that came with my receiver (IRD) says property of News Datacom. And yes, you BUY them. I dunno, the place I bought mine from must be stealing from NDC because I have a receipt for the entire contents of my box (including the smartcard), without a EULA.

    And copy them, no, they have an ASIC to prevent copying (and slow down hacking:-)

    Radio Shacks service is from Starband. But.. you *must* buy a box from the shack to get service. I think there stuffing people into Compaqs. Real lame.

    OTOH

    To buy service direct from Starband and use their transmitter, you only get a USB interface. I guess this is the less of the two evils?

    At least with Starband. Installation is mandatory. I don't know if it's per regulation and/or their policy. I guess they don't need some lusers looking at the waveguide while powered up.

    If I'm not mistaken you *must* own a Sony to have the capability to burn CD-TEXT. Bad thing is (or was.. might have changed by now) Sony CDR's don't do DAO (only TAO)

    That's what most of my dead end users upgraded to Creator 4 for. No more, first you turn it into a wav, then you...ect..ect phone calls.

    Ya gotta wonder how long Roxio will support turning all those napster downloads into dead end users click to create CDs.

    But who the hell buys from local vendors anyways. They don't stock anything they just order from Ingram. Besides even *paying* the shipping for next day service, you beat the price ordering from an out of state supplier.
