Even though it didn't succeed commercially, i find it funny that most ATX boards have PS/2 ports for Mouse and Keyboard instead of the Serial / Din connector that we used to use.
(I just upgraded from a p166 to a PIII 500 and had to get adapters for keyboard and mouse cause i like my old trackball and Next Gen Keyboard)
As members of the old school would we want to revert to the old ways things were done just because we can?
I can remember as a youngster (ie pre-geek days when i was knee high to a grasshopper) when everybody talked about how goo dthe old days where. How books were better cause you could pick them up and how you only had good movies and the cars were better and things were built to last.
Lets face some reality here. As Geeks and Nerds we are supposed to be the advocators for the cutting edge of technology and supposed to be pushing the breakthroughs. Let not the software world declare that Geeks started out making things happen only to allow the world to fall to those who LET THINGS HAPPEN!!!!
Am i an advocate of throughing away all the old stuff done in the past no but I am saying that we should not through away our future because an old app worked well at the time. Besides who has started playing a game of Ultima 4 or Curse of the Azure Bonds on their computers in the last few weeks? Why don't we port all the old code over? Hey lets not even upgrade it in the process so they still only have 4 colors and a two tone sound track! Why do we upgrade processors, memory, video cards and sound cards if we are not going to take full advantage of them?
As each individual is different and we all have our own sets of morals and what offends us and what not (ie I like Carrots, my sister absolutely hates them) The law allows for differences of opionion.
It is what you as an individual under your own choices of morals and conscience take offence to.
Under Australian Law, only people over the age of 18 can obtain a Credit Card (Ie MasterCard, BankCard or Visa). People under the age of 18 can obtain ordinary "Debit" or EFTPOS cards but not Credit Cards. The problem occurs when Johnnie 16 has the VISA logo on his DEBIT card.
THe other interesting and Fun part is that this may contravene Privacy Laws. It may be illegal to keep a register of who is access "R" Rated information as this could be seen as a licence or information that could be deemed harmful if released. You don't need a special PORN licence to by Penthouse!
Also you can get a drivers permit at the age of 16 so even a licence is not fool proof.
Being an Australian, I am not sure of what the full extent your antitrust laws will enforce but what if MS Permanently transfers its incorporation outside of US Control?
How would the Department of Justice feel if MS slipped away and relocated into somewhere like the Peoples Republic of China? Could it then stop the business practices of MS? No my guess is it would only cause irreporable damage to the US Gross Domestic Product (AKA GDP).
If this was an australian case, all we would have to do is relocate to the US and we then become an importer. As a foreign company they are then exempt from Anticompetative trading laws.
Under Australian laws and regulations there is only One to a customer.
Is it so hard? Probabely not it just takes a consesus of people on Capitol Hill to make it happen. Chances are though that you are more likely to get Microsoft to give away Windows than for that to happen.
Dows anyone know if this is going to be telecast in Australia either in Cable or Free to Air?

The Australian Version of this Article Had the Almighty quote
As "Scumdamn" wrote, "Is it just me or did the world just gain color? I feel like dancing around singing 'Ding Dong the witch is dead!'"
Did this appear in the US version??
After I checked out the the original Posting Here it looks like they even quoted the wrong author.

Just some food for thought

Just my two cents worth
