    So close....

The 4 writers are not just because of the 4 names of God, but also the massive discrepancies in style and content of various parts of the bible. How else do you square the Babylonian creation myths of Genesis with the temple accounts of Leviticus and then the need to recount everything all over again in Deuteronomy. Highly recommend Richard Elliot Friedman's "Who Wrote the Bible" to anyone really interested in this. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0139 585133/103-1081140-1817412?v=glance
Spoiler: not written by Rabbi's but by High Priest in Josiah's reign to cement the legitimacy of the new monarchy with the old priestly sects and monarchy bloodline (Rabbi's being a relatively late addition to Judaism, the priestly Cohen sect was more important for spiritual leadership back then)

The Dead Sea scrolls don't play such an important part here, although they are very interesting especially to understand the socio-political developments of Roman period Judea. And in fact there's another myth that there were not different versions of the Pentateuch. Apparently the Karaite bible has at least 13 differences and you can assume they are just as accurate with protecting their textual tradition (and if you're into lamb barbecue's Mt. Gerizim outside Nablus is the place to be around Passover time).

Anyway, your evidence is very patchy. If you're looking for Orthodox Rabbi's to claim creation is allegorical you can start hunting around Maimonides (Rambam), IIRC you'll find plenty there.

And yes, it's trite, but I believe (with a complete belief ;-)) that my karma does run over your dogma...

And where do those bastard pension funds get their money from? From little guys like me, and why do they need to invest? as people these days shag loads but don't have offspring so there'll be no kids to pay for my ripe old age. Hang on, so I'm an indirect shareholder?

Not sure why the above was graded insightful. Not all companies are greedy (though I'm sure all us 16 year old Linux-using commies would disagree), but most of the leading OSS companies are using subscription models.

This is because you can reduce the cost of initial spend of a purchase, but also people expect their LAMP to work well with the latest versions.

Well guess what? Someone has to spend their time updating and fixing to be compatible with latest versions. And I'm not talking about some kid in a university dorm, but serious companies with seriously talented engineers with proper QA procedures and testing labs.

So in short, I'm right and your point is rubbish.

  7. Re:Spike in Israeli companies? on The Car That Makes Its Own Fuel · · Score: 1

As someone who's worked with Israeli start-ups for a number of years (yes I live in Israel) there's a few explanations for this:
    1) all Jewish boys want to make their mum happy (even retired Professors like in this article) so there's pressure.
    2) there's a very dynamic start-up scene across all technology areas. So there's simply a high number of PR announcements.
    3) when all your friends are starting successful start-ups, aren't you gonna feel the pressure to make it look like you're about to make it too (Press Release!)
    4) Israeli innovation culture is like Google. Get something out there, improve it. I think Guy Kawasaki calls this "Don't worry, be crappy". This means that many things fail in real world tests. This is the same with any technology company, but there are lots of start-ups here...
    5) the Universities are in on it too - they are big technology incubators. They make loads of money on royalties when their ideas cash out, so they have a business interest to hype their technology (whether it works properly in the real world or not).
    6) this Press Release seems to be some PR for something coming out of incubator stage - they don't even have a corporate website and it seems they were only founded last year (I checked on MATIMOP the Ministry of Trade and Industry's R&D database) which would be a very short development cycle for hardware product like this.
    7) In short, this is pre-investment PR to make it look like they have something decent. All that is really displayed in the article are some diagrams. They're probably talking to a bunch of investors and released this to make it look like they're further along in development than they actually are to get the investors to move.
    8) Nice marketing though - zero emissions. Yeah, zero emissions of what we normally measure for emissions. Zero emissions, major omissions.

just wondering really how many companies really give a shit about auditing the code of these really peripheral tools.

Enterprise = support, GUI, proper QA and release procedures, decent documentation and a company you can talk to if you need special stuff done, something that many FOSS lack.

FOSS is great, but it's not the only way, nor will it ever be.

Then let's assume you have 100 movies, 1000 movies? Wanna manage that through the file system? Do you really want to watch them on your computer? Sure you can do all these things, but there's a bunch of things missing to make this as simple as putting a disc in your DVD machine.
