I have to agree with ya pal, and love the UID BTW, in that if you watch more than a few minutes of a lot of the shitpiles that goes for "pop culture" you'll feel the brain shrinking by the moment! I mean I watched half an episode to see what the fuck a "Snooki" was and I was...that? you people actually WATCH a bunch of fucktards acting like dipshits? And you consider this entertainment?
I swear just 5 minutes of any of the current reality crap and I start looking around for a hidden camera because it feel like a parody designed to see how fucking retarded one can make television. i have to wonder when i see this crap if "Oww My balls!" is gonna be on next, I just don't understand how anybody can stand watching this shit for even 20 minutes! hell if the FBI wants me to talk just put Jersey Shore on for 30 minutes with me tied up like clockwork orange and I'd be happy to tell them any damned thing they want! Sell out my family, no problem just turn that shit off, please?
Lucky bastard. In my area its $119 a month for the cable bundle (phone, TV and 20Mbps Internet) or $70 for DSL which if you are lucky and its a good day gets 3Mbps. Oh and it costs $16 per month more if you do NOT want the TV, just the net and phone! Of course their phone doesn't count against the cap while someone else's VoIP would so you can't save any money there either.
lets face it, as long as most of America is lucky if they have a duopoly and the DoJ has no teeth frankly they can do whatever they want. Thanks to caps all they have to do to "steer' your behavior is offer their own services cap free while everybody else gets the cap. That's the problem with lack of competition, you do it their way or you do without, simple as that.
This is why I have been arguing for years why glaring problems in Linux, the driver ABI problem, stability problems, beta or worse quality code like Pulseaudio or the horrible wireless subsystem, simply don't get fixed. the ONLY way we have seen the GPL model to "work" is the services model, where some corp hires the developer to fix problems they have which of course doesn't work with desktops because corps have no interest in them (for them Windows or Macs work fine, since they don't care about dogma) and now with GPL V3 corps really have no reason to support GPL either since RMS' Marxism has gotten so bad the new license is VERY anti business. And if anyone doesn't believe RMS is a Marxist one only has to go to Stallman.org and look up what the man says about Chavez and Castro, he practically squees.
The problem with FOSS in general and Linux in particular is that unless you simply care ONLY about dogma there is simply no compelling reason to deal with the bullshit. As a retailer I can tell you the broken driver model will cost me more than a copy of Windows will and that is with me only charging $35 an hour. A single broken driver can cost me 3 to 5 hours hunting for fixes and trying to tweak said fixes so they work, a copy of Win 7 Home? $89. So a single broken driver costs MORE than Windows. My customers of course have NO desire to learn bash or jump through hoops so it takes even less for Windows to be the better deal.
So to get Linux to the masses means these problems will have to be fixed, but how much will it cost? Well Google has spent a billion on Android but just for the sake of argument lets say Linux is 90% there (bullshit but I'm being generous for the sake of argument) so that will only cost 10% of Android, so that's 100 million. Where do you get the money? You can't sell it as Mandriva and Linspire found out, also anyone can come along and leech off what you have done for free as Canonical found out with Mint. OEMs? Nope even the highest estimates have OEMs paying $25 for Starter and $50 for Home and the cost of support for Linux will make it a non starter, especially when the OEMs make on average $10 per unit on the low end which is their biggest sellers. Walmart found this out when they tried selling gOS Linux desktops and laptops.
And THIS my friend is why Linux will remain a niche, because you need tens of millions to fix the problems and the money simply isn't there. Despite all the FUD from the community for the vast majority Windows is pretty hassle free and they have gotten used to the "It just works" of Windows and OSX on desktops, not to mention to them windows is "free' because it is included in the cost of their new OEM machine. Hell even Shuttleworth has figured this out as he refuses to sink good money after bad by sinking more into Canonical
. In the end communism simply doesn't work, and people, especially top notch coders, simply won't spend years of their lives fixing something when all they are gonna get is a pat on the head. I have to say I do LMAO to see so many defend the FOSS ideal...while they head into jobs where they get paid. Why not tell your boss you'll work "for the good of the community"? I bet he'd appreciate it, may even give you a pat on the head. Of course i bet you can't squat at MIT and be given free flights to conferences and all the other perks RMS gets either.
Give it up Barbara, the logical hoop jumping they will attempt to "prove" that black equals white just isn't worth dealing with. I can post 200 links by the people that actually built the things showing what arrogant little shits many of them are, show link after link of even the largest OEMs having to jump through flaming hoops because a lack of an ABI makes Linux as brittle as can be, but nope, won't matter, because just like the "party faithful" of any religion or political group they will NEVER believe their own eyes, you just need to be drinking a little more kool aid and join in the crazy, that's all.
This is why frankly I have given up. I block Linux posts on every forum I go to, I no longer download distros, because even though I can post screencaps with a half a dozen PCs being broken by even simple updates nope, didn't happen, you MUST be a shill. So it doesn't matter how many years you had being a Linux admin Barbara, doesn't matter how many nights you've dealt with their bullshit, unless you join in the groupthink and lies then you MUST be a M$ Ninja!
So just give it up, its like talking to a bunch of insane people and expecting an intelligent discussion, just ain't gonna happen. I can't wait to see what kind of logical hoop jumping they will go through when Canonical folds from lack of operating capital, I'll unblock Linux posts to LMAO at that one. it'll be they didn't follow party doctrine or they didn't listen to the "community" which wasn't giving them a dime in the first place, why it can't be that the Linux model simply doesn't work in desktops, nope, can't be that at all. BTW want cherry or grape kool aid? I swear these nutters that have taken over Linux remind me of the Mad Hatter, where the discussions go round and round without actually making any sense or reason.
Thanks but what I have noticed in FOSS is the same thing that has happened in politics, the "party faithful" aka batshit have taken over the tents and therefor discussion is no longer allowed. it would be like trying to point out a bad spot on the platform to a hardcore D or R all you get is being accused of being "one of THEM!" when you are pointing out something that is so damned obvious a child can see it.
Take what I'm sure you have noticed about GPL, that GPL V3 is anti-business. this is pretty obvious, I mean the man even targeted a business that pissed him off specifically which of course would make ANY business wary of being the target of GPL V4 so naturally they ain't gonna want to go near it, right? yet look at the responses I received, nothing but hatred and mod downs because i refuse to pretend that reality is the big bad world picking on poor old RMS. I mean if you follow the FOSSie faction I'm supposedly getting checks from MSFT, Apple, Comodo,TiVo, and AMD. Why do I have to work 6 days a week then? Hell their logic isn't even consistent, because AMD open sourced their drivers yet I'm "working to destroy FOSS"? Does that make ANY logical sense?
So in the end devs like you will quietly switch to BSD and guys like me will just block Linux in the prefs and let the party faithful pretend reality is nothing like the real world. its no wonder GPL and Linux are going nowhere, nobody will look at reality and fix what's broken!
Yeah not really seeing the connection to the Pi, heck the chip alone is $250, not exactly anywhere near Pi. Now maybe if they had used an Atom, like those $80 AMD E350 boards? Then I could see a comparison. But all this is is something many of us have seen, car computers. There are a few companies out there building little bitty X86 units for cars and that's what this reminds me of, NOT the Pi. And how much juice does an i3 suck? The E350 is 18w, the Pi I can't recall but I remember its some teeny number, I just don't see an i3 getting anywhere close to that low.
Might make a good HTPC though, but then again the pi and the E350 can both do that at a HELL of a lot cheaper. At the price of a chip for this thing alone you could buy 10 Pi units or a complete E350 kit with the memory, HDD, nice VCR style case and a 24x DVD and still have money left over. Just not seeing the appeal here, except that this lets Intel say "Me too!" and put a checkmark on a PPT, cool looking mini-case though, will they come with those?
The reason the number is not higher is because of politics, because some many in the MIC are sucking at the teat with the F-35 but within a year or so that will be over, hell the Navy is quietly buying more F-18s and it looks like the USAF is gonna end up buying the Stealth Eagle along with a pile more F-16s because they too are tired of waiting.
But even with those numbers, which I doubt are accurate as for example they have C-130s flying over my head 24/7 pretty much (I'm within 60 miles of the training base) and there is no way they could keep them running constantly if they had so few aircraft, but even if we take those numbers at face value frankly it would take longer to get those old F-5s and Hueys into combat shape than it would to simply call our allies or hell if the war isn't involving Russia i'm sure they would part with some MiGs and SUs for cash.
If they were being kept in a state of readiness I'd be with you friend, but they aren't. Hell I doubt our current weapons systems would even fit on an F-5 without major work done to both the combat systems as well as the craft themselves. Nope what they are doing is simply rotting, the rubber is getting brittle, the joints are locking up, its just not any good for a complex mechanical system to just sit anymore than to just stuff a car into a garage for 20 years and expect it to be drivable with a new tank of gas.
Hell if anything if you are worried about our state of readiness then you should be for my position, as long as they are sold to US citizens. after all in WWII we took over many civilian ships and aircraft until our manufacturing got up to speed, and it would be easier to refit a running Huey or warbird that is flown every month by a civilian than it would be to try to unwrap something that has been just sitting for a couple of decades and get it into flyable shape.
There is a flaw in your thinking friend, and it is thus: Many projects are made by more than a single person therefor if you have multiple developers and only ONE refuses to use anything but GPL? you are screwed unless you go in and rip out all of that persons contributions which often won't be simple and may require significant rewrites. See VLC as an example of this.
So there are plenty of reason to use a FOSS license just NOT the GPL. Its not like there aren't choices that aren't hateful to businesses, there is BSD, MPL, shared source, Apache, etc. I would argue THAT is why you are seeing a decline in GPL. If one has a project where you allow multiple people to contribute you'd be hamstringing yourself to use GPL but you could use any of these other licenses and not have any problems getting your program into appstores.
Are any parts of your app GPL V3? I would guess not. You see what the appstores and even Android do NOT allow is GPL V3 because its anti-business, hell RMS even went out of his way to target a specific business that pissed him off (TiVo) so naturally businesses don't want to have anything to do with GPL V3. the problem is too many think "Open Source equals GPL" when you can enjoy any number of licenses and still be open source, just as you yourself did when you chose BSD.
So the appstores are NOT anti-open source, they are anti-GPL V3. What amazes me is how many here are getting pissed off, well what did you expect? RMS makes an anti-business license, the businesses refuse to have anything to do with it, developers want to sell their programs to businesses and users through the appstores, ergo they don't use GPL V3 and the GPL numbers fall. What is so hard to figure out here?
You are welcome, and if you don't mind a little advice? if you are doing a story on WWI in EU look up the PAK weapons, because he said those were what really put fear into a GI's heart. he said they opened up with the PAKs as they were retreating and when those shells, which were designed to actually punch holes in tanks, would hit into a pile of infantry it was like doll pieces strewn everywhere, just surreal. he of course would have to go in afterwards and lay down the lines or repair damaged cables while...well like I said, doll pieces. BTW did you know they all carried a dog tag in one of their boots? that was so if they got hit in the head you could still ID the body, just surreal that average guys like my grandfather, who was the classic "gentle giant", could go through such things and end up living a peaceful life.
I just can't for the life of me understand how screaming at someone is supposed to change anything. I mean you see supposedly religious people screaming profanity at abortion clinics, what does it accomplish? i have never once had my mind changed by someone yelling at me, but I have had it changed by someone simply speaking to me one on one and making good arguments, if nothing else they did make me think about my position.
And I think you are right that yelling at bankers is never gonna change a single thing, if anything it will only harden them further. its just a shame that more don't simply put up a little sign and then let those that are curious come forth, I bet they would get a lot more actual dialog happening if they did that for one hour than if they screamed all day. Maybe its just me, but I think its all gotten too...coarse. people simply don't show even the most common respect for one another, they just look at them as "the enemy" and that accomplishes nothing.
in the end i couldn't look upon those Nazis with hate, even when they cursed at me, instead i looked upon them as my grandfather did, with pity. as he told me when he watched the Nazis in Illinois "If they had had to spend even a day at one of those camps there is no way they could look upon Nazism as anything but pure evil" and since he wasn't there i simply took his place and would do so again. One doesn't have to smack someone in the face with it, simply never forget what those that were there witnessed and to rebut lies with the truth. One can do that while still being human, not some barking dog shouting out profanity.
That is why I think what will save the FPS genre is the indie devs. The market for Call of Dooky is as you pointed out a niche, a popular frat boy niche, but a niche nonetheless and its one of those games where a few months after the new one comes out the old game is a ghosttown for MP matches.
But there are a ton of us out there that will happily buy an indie game, even if the graphics were 2004 levels, if it had new ideas or even some real exploration and secrets. Too many are now just linear set pieces where it feels like work to play them. Go to cover, pop and kill, lather rinse repeat. its BORING! This is why I end up going back to games like Blood or Redneck Rampage, even though they look ancient by today's standards, because they are FUN, with huge levels, lots of secrets, cool bad guys, and even decent humor!
So I think that we will end up seeing the indie devs, who don't have to have multimillion dollar budgets or giant set pieces, using their limited assets to bring back the fun. We have seen this in minecraft, torchlight, and now grimlock has brought back the old FP dungeon crawler, so the one genre that hasn't had a good indie makeover yet is FPS. too many have been just skinning unreal tourny but I bet that will change, the market is there, just give them time.
But who says a game HAS to have 50 or 100 players? One could just as easily have 4-8 LAN or net play and if it is a FUN game people will still happily buy it.
I mean imagine a game with huge levels and weapons like the "TJ Hooker missile" that would make your enemy have to fight through a giant toupee slipping down his face for a few minutes, or kitty bombs that chase the character and when they latch on you only have a few seconds to through some cat food before the bomb goes off, it would be a blast! Nobody would care if you could only play 4 or 8 at a time, you could still have leaderboards and tournys just the same.
In the end I have never seen a game that was not fun but the graphics saved it, not once. With indies they wouldn't be stuck making Call of Dooky: Killzone Halo Edition and could actually have games that were FUN again, with huge levels, crazy weapons, hidden power ups, the stuff we used to take for granted! I truly think Minecraft, torchlight, and grimlock are just the start, more and more are gonna realize they don't have to have bling as long as its fun with a capital F. in the end its a game, what good is it if it isn't fun to play?
Thanks, but notice how he STILL doesn't get it? He thinks the poor are still OCing but the simple fact of the matter is that poor folks are happy with what they have, frankly they don't have enough work to push the CPU they have so OCing (which naturally shortens the life of the CPU, just as drag racing shortens the life of the engine) simply holds no appeal to them.
But you look at even the top 50 slots on any leaderboard or go to ANY forum that deals in OCing (which of course if one were poor and OCing that is where they would go to learn) and they ALL have their specs listed, often in their sig or UID, and the costs are just insane. in the end I know of which i speak because i build PCs for a living and sell most to 'ordinary Joes' and frankly they simply aren't interested in OCing, all they care about is will it run FB games, play HD video, and let them listen to tunes and even my $350 netbook does all of those tasks with cycles to spare.
Its just not like the old days where if one didn't OC then a year after purchase the PC couldn't run the latest software anymore, and its definitely not the poor OCing to get a better value, because again even the bargain chips are insanely overpowered for the tasks they have. Hell I used to OC all the time and now I have an AMD hexacore that I'm running stock, why? its not because it won't OC, in fact with the easy Asrock OC Tuner I got nearly a 1GHz OC without needing to bump voltage, its just that the chip simply is fast enough as it is and lowering its life so it can finish a transcode a few seconds faster simply isn't appealing.
But you have a good analogy there in drag racing, because in a way that is what it is. each of these guys spend insane amounts to shave a few seconds off a benchmark or get a little higher score and Intel knows this which is why they aren't worried about the OCing potential of the low and midrange SKUs, because those into the scene wouldn't be caught dead with a midrange chip anymore than a street racer is gonna want an economy car.
Well then all the employee has to do is work hard until they are hired and THEN coast. You see THIS is the problem we have had with unions here in the USA and why many of the poor even hate them. I got to see how foolish unions can be first hand when one of the local factories went on strike. there were guys with signs saying $17 an hour was "slave labor" and this is in a town where the average wage is $8. Needless to say when the factory said "fuck this" and closed down and went to mexico? Nobody blamed them, because it was the retarded union that basically slit their own throat.
So while there are a whole lot of things wrong with the USA frankly i can understand why so many companies leave union states for at will or even leave the USA altogether when things get tilted too far to one side.If you have an employee that sucks then you should be able to fire them PERIOD the end. sadly this is why many companies around here don't want to hire black people, not because they dislike anybody based on skin color, but because they fired someone who was black who immediately sued because "it was racist to fire me!" and then had to deal with all the court and bullshit, which they just don't get when they hire whites or Latinos. In the end too many tried playing the race card and ended up hurting everyone, just as too many of the unions got too greedy and ended up running off the businesses.
Notice how many simply insult? That is how you can spot a butthurt FOSSie BTW, they have NO arguments so all they can do is insult.
Now to answer your question: The lack of a stable ABI can be traced back to 1993. In 1993 Torvalds was asked by several to put in an ABI and he responded that "Linux doesn't need an ABI" and that it would cost too much memory. Remember this was 1993, when 8Mb of RAM would cost more than a new PC does today, so his argument WAS understandable.
But of course its not 1993 anymore. Now let us look at the current OS landscape, who has an ABI? BSD, Solaris, OSX, iOS, Windows, even OS/2 which is being sold as eComstation now has a driver ABI. Now who doesn't have an ABI? Linux and...yeah just Linux.
So if you want the perfect argument to STFU a rampant FOSSie when it comes to ABIs it is this: Imagine I am a hardware manufacturer, I can go Linux, which means i either have to throw the stability and reputation of my company's products to some kernel dev who may or may not give a shit, I can "pull an Nvidia" and pay an entire team to do nothing but deal with Torlvald's breakage by constantly updating the drivers, or I can just write FOUR little drivers and be finished until 2022. that's it, send everyone home, its done. watch how easy, and it even covers no longer supported versions...2K/XP 32bit, XP X64, WinVista/7/8 32 bit, WinVista/7.8 64 bit...tada!
It is THIS reason why Linux is crippled without an ABI, because any manufacturer can cover Windows from 1999-2022 with a single CD and that's it, you are done. If this were done with Linux no more hardware roulette, no more forum hunts for fixes, you'd just look on the box for the penguin logo and that would be that. Hell with Vista or better they don't even need driver CDs anymore since Windows Update has drivers for all the major hardware so frankly if they wanted all they would need on the Windows disc is the NIC but since its a DVD they go ahead and put basic WHQL drivers for most hardware on board. hell my 71 year old dad got impatient and installed Win 7 when i wasn't there, know what I had to do when i got there? Show him how to install Firefox, that's all. hardware ABIs make it trivial to support most hardware OOTB with almost no effort, they write a driver, they hand it to the distro, they include it, done.
But instead because there are so many FOSSies, which again treat the OS as religion and thus all edicts as religious dogma, instead you'll get excuses or insults. really that is all they can do because they don't have a single argument for the current mess. Even the one kernel dev they constantly post in rebuttal is a FOSSie, who even writes in his rebuttal "And I hope all of those that use non free drivers have them break constantly!". you see THAT is not the attitude of an advocate, that's the attitude of a religious loonie. When you would wish grief upon someone else simply because they have a different opinion? Then you are a FOSSie. So I'll leave you with that little bit of logic to use next time you run into a FOSSie, and I'll leave them to keep posting insults that I won't read. Sorry FOSSies, although I like to laugh at you I have no interest in reading your religious diatribes.
Except other than crazy military scenarios that could NEVER EVER happen...why? Nukes. You only really have two kinds of war anymore, those with nukes and those without. Now looking at the state of the world's militaries right this minute there are only two countries that could actually wage a war long enough for your scenario to be plausible, and that is Russia and China, and guess what? they both got nukes. There is no such things as "gentlemen's agreements" in total war and I seriously doubt if we had Russia or China backed against the wall they wouldn't fire off a few, hence why the threat of actual war with either country is virtually nil. They know we would launch, we know they would launch, so the best you are gonna get is proxy wars.
So I'm sorry but that argument simply no longer holds. it did during the cold war simply because other than sat pics we honestly didn't know what the USSR could do as far as production, that is no longer true. And as for China? they can royally fuck us economically by dumping all their US currency on the market so a war with them would be frankly suicidal, so again no real threat there. Oh we'll bitch at them occasionally, and they will bitch at us, but in the end we want to buy and they want to sell so that's that.
Besides do you HONESTLY think if we managed to toast our ENTIRE inventory of front line fighters, which considering we have 11 carriers to the next biggest guys 2 is no small task, that a bunch of mid 50s to mid 60s planes would make a difference? hell the time it would take to get them back into fighting shape and to the front would take too long anyway!
No the boneyard is just another cold war relic that needs to be gotten rid of. like I said where we still have craft in service and thus need the parts? yes, all for it, please keep those. But I can't picture the military suddenly wanting to go back to flying F-5s and Hueys and remember just because they are wrapped does NOT make them some sort of instant 'just unwrap and use" because the rubber is gonna get brittle, parts are gonna lock up, its just not good on an aircraft. better to sell those that we no longer have any use for to the civilian market. hell if we need them back at least then they'll be in running condition and we can always get them back just as we drafted boats and planes for service in WWII.
All one has to do is look at the before and after numbers friend, the data doesn't lie. Right up until GPL V3 the numbers were consistent, it was going up quarter by quarter, after GPL V3 the numbers were flat for the first quarter (as businesses looked it over) and then it has been a straight down curve ever since. look up the numbers yourself, it makes a pretty little bell curve.
But you see posts like yours, where yes you did get all butthurt EXACTLY as I predicted, is why I separate FOSS advocates from FOSSies. A FOSS advocate uses FOSS because it is the best tool for a particular job they have, FOSSies look upon it as a religion, FOSS advocates argue their position with the pros and cons, FOSSies see everything as a personal attack on their Deity. This phenomena isn't exactly a secret, it is why we have comics like this and this and actual syndromes like this one. If you would like to see an example of this syndrome BTW, please go to linux Insider and look up anything posted by pogson, its soo funny to watch a FOSSie as he keeps saying "That other OS" or M$ because he's sure that if he types the actual word then MSFT Ninjas will get him, hilarious!
So whether you like it or not frankly means nothing to me, I honestly don't care, i just love to LMAO at loons and lately FOSSies have been funny as hell. I mean can you even picture a Mac user typing "the OS from Redmond ooohhh" or a windows user typing "The kernel that must not be named' its just too damned funny the kind of batshit crazy that RMS attracts, hell its comedy gold!
Exactly, the Navy scraps boats all the time, not a big deal. What DOES piss me off about the military is how many old choppers and warbirds we have wrapped in plastic out at the boneyard. Now if it is useful for parts then yes, i can see it, but frankly all those early to late 60s choppers and warbirds are so hopelessly out of date the military is never gonna want to fly those again and they would fetch a damned good price on the civilian market. the huey is still used quite a bit today by civilian pilots and of course old warbirds are seriously prized by collectors. Oh and before anyone says some third world country would buy them...so what? Frankly you can buy better birds from Russia that aren't nearly as out of date and as we saw in desert storm without top notch pilots you get another turkey shoot anyway, not to mention we know exactly how these old birds handle and what their weaknesses were.
When we are drowning in red ink its just retarded to let billions of dollars worth of aircraft just sit and rot out in the desert when they could fetch good money on the civilian market. We should sell a few to test the waters and then if they fetch good prices then see about selling more. i know this won't take away the debt but every little bit helps and they certainly aren't doing us any good wrapped in plastic out in the desert. Hell you could even give a discount to small hospitals on the choppers for those that don't have lifeflight and might even save some lives, better than just letting them rot.
It is just Slashdot doing what it does best on a slow news week, they be trolling. They know those that treat anything RMS says as word of God will get all butthurt when they see this and will go apeshit and hilarious flames will ensue, but really if one thinks logically it is easy to explain.
1.- GPL V3 went too anti-business, with RMS going so far as to target one business specifically, 2.- Businesses and those that are working for them were the ones writing much of the GPL code, 3.-RMS refuses to change a line or compromise, 4.-Everyone votes with their feet by going to a different license.
See how simple that is? Now watch those followers of St iGNUicious have a living shitfit because i dared to point out not only reality, but that freedom works BOTH ways! Hell isn't the whole point of FOSS is "If things don't go the way the majority believe, then fork it" so that no one person can dictate what the majority have to have? Well that is what we are seeing here, RMS went too far and spooked a lot of people with his militant anti-business attitude so they are choosing a different license, that's all. If RMS weren't such a militant he would come to the table with developers and Torvalds and ask "What is wrong with the license? What do I need to change to get you on board?" but we know he'll never do that so instead people choose something else. Looks like FOSS is doing exactly as it always has, routing around damage.
Question: Then how would you fire someone that sucks at their job? if i have 3 employees and two are lazy bastards and one a hard worker naturally i would want to fire the lazy ones and keep the good one, so how does that work over there?
Actually I'd like to answer that, the "sin" the Poles had committed was trusting the Brits and French to come in on white horses to their rescue instead of arming themselves to the teeth and prepping for war. When your next door neighbor gives the finger to international law and starts building weapons like there is no tomorrow AND he has written a book where he has made it damned clear that the "destiny" of his people is to conquer and take lands to the east and you are east of them? well stupid fucking you if you don't see that freighttrain about to run over your ass.
Won't work and here is why: Shell corps, which the USA really doesn't do little if anything to regulate. You see all GS or Halliburton would do is set up a dummy corp called "Freedom for the free' or some other bullshit name, bounce the money through two or three shell corps before it got to FFTF and voila! same problem we have now.
Personally i have serious doubts anything can be done about the system until it collapses which i truly believe is inevitable now. The corruption is just too deep and too entrenched and any solutions would cause loss of power to those top 5% who frankly won't stand for it. Instead what we will see is BOTH sides grabbing more and more power for themselves, BOTH sides giving away money to their masters as fast as they can, and BOTH sides making sure the printing presses spin like tops.
So I'm sorry friend and as much as the few optimists left like to call me a bastard for saying this I believe it to be true nonetheless, the only thing you can do now is grab as much for you and yours as you can and try to be as ready as you can be for the fall. Some have said that attitude will hasten the fall, but so what? if it crashes in 10 years or 15 will it really make any difference? The jobs are gone, the factories closed or closing, nearly half don't pay any taxes because they are too poor and more and more of the population can't even eat or clothe themselves without government assistance. and in all of this there is NOTHING you can do about it because you don't have enough money to buy congressmen and votes are worthless when both sides have been bought.
So grab what you can and be ready, because even someone with a sixth grade education knows you can't spend more than you bring in forever but with both sides so bought and paid for and their refusal to see this most basic of realities means all you can do is be ready for when the whole rotten thing comes crashing down.
Uhhhh...you haven't actually BEEN to any of the OCing forums of late, have you friend? the guys on those sites are frankly spending more on their liquid coolers than I did on my whole PC. they are RAIDing SSD, dual and triple SLI or Xfire is the norm many are sporting 24 and 32Gb of RAM, hell check the top 30 leaderboards of any OCing forums these guys are NOT cheap.
So I'm sorry friend but while OCing USED to be poor folks squeezing a little more performance out of a Celeron 300A those days are long past. The guys ruling that scene now wouldn't touch a budget chip like AMD if their lives depended on it and the only reason they are running single socket Intel is there aren't any board that allow dual sockets with 4 SLI and a shitpile of RAM. the guys on the boards now spend more on their PCs than jocks do on their cars which is fine and dandy, but don't think any poor folks can play in their sandbox friend, like many other things in this country OCing has become a rich man's game.
But what you are talking about is not because the market is large, quite the contrary, it is because Intel knows that the market isn't large and wants to be able to force an upsell on those that are into OCing. I mean why let someone OC a $200 CPU and get the same performance as a $400 CPU when you can force them to buy the $400 CPU just to be able to OC at all? This also lets them build OCing as a market for the "elite" and as we have seen many will try to buy the more expensive unit if they think it somehow makes them "better" than those that do not.
This is why I'm still using AMD socket AM3+ for a lot of builds, because it not only allows OCing on a lot of affordable chips (The Asrock and Gigabyte boards even have great OCing tools that will get good OCs on even locked AMD chips) but with core unlocking one can often get a better chip for less money. My customers naturally love it when they buy a dual and get a triple, or unlock a triple to a quad, certain chips even have better than 50% unlock rates like the Zosma chips quite often unlock to hexacores from quads.
Now THAT type of OCing I can see, because no matter what you are running a free core can always be used if for no other reason than performing background tasks. But Intel is simply trying to monetize OCing and turn it into a high end club, which considering some of the crazy money I've seen the guys wanting to win the benches spend frankly isn't a stupid move.
