I have seen on the AP wire that this quake was large enough to affect the earth's rotation. Could that possibly in turn affect the earth's magnetic field. I don't really know, I guess that I'm just asking for someone to explain exactly how the rotation has been affected, and what greater ramifications, if any, this entails.
Additionally, I was wondering if ther was anyone who could explain what kind of early warning system for earthquakes and tsunamis is in place in the Pacific Ocean. There was evidently not one in place for the Indian Ocean which has magnified the scope of this disaster.
