I am not sure why everyone says M$ stuff is so easy to install. I can honestly say that after installing NT about a million times I went to install it on a laptop that was NT complient or whatever they want to call it (had the little 98/NT sticker on it) and I can tell you it took me about the same amount of time to isntall redhat 5.1 (and this was my first time installing linux period).
Then you come to the issues of sound cards that are plug and play that are isa... what do you do cause lord knows they don't work right out of the box. You gotta go in there and (I forget the file) but you have to run the plug and play file for isa cards. Kinda silly and not very well documented although in most cases you can find this with the card manufacturer.
I am not saying I am a NT geek or anything but I used NT enough to know how to install it and for people to say it is easy to install makes me laugh esp since I installed 5.1 of redhat in less time then I installed NT after a few million times of installing it.
But then again like one of my co-workers would say (he can make NT do anything arg) "I can really make linux suck to you know.":) In regards to how everyone says nt sucks his point is that if you understand the os you can make it do anything. I agree 100% it is just funny how everyone assumes that NT is easier when that is not always the case.
I would have to disagree. Maybe if your trying to stream mp3's at cd quality theyn they are not as efficiant as G2 but if you bring them down a little in quality to say about the same as the music that comes over G2 they are actually just about the same. One big difference is that mp3s have great apps so you get your equalizer and what not where G2 your just kind of stuck which really blows. So I would have to say that there is no way that anyone that actually likes music and need it to sound good would pick the G2 over an mp3.
I am not sure if you read the patents but the patents clearly say "The present invention is a method for transmitting a desired digital video or audio signal stored on a first memory of a first party to a second memory of a second party."
Well if we know anything then we should realize that mp3.com or anyone that is transphering files is only placing the files on a hard drive not actually transphering them. So in short you can't be touched by this patent unless you create a system kinda like DIVX ( well not really but sorta ) where you call up and pay for the song and download it right there. Then you would be infringing on the patent. As it stands we do no more then put the files onto a hard drive. Someone elses product ( M$'s IIS or Apache ) move the file from the hd to memory to the other users memory where the users operating system or application they are using do download places it in their memory.
I did not find this one that hard to figure out that is what it says in plan english from what I can see. Anyone else see anything else?
Your joking right? Maybe this article does not say it but Dell has said they will sell you a box with linux on it may times. Although before they did say you had to buy something like 30 computers a quarter if you want support. But they are doing linux case by case... give your rep a call and ask him to put linux on a computer for you, most likely he will say okay.
Oh and why has no one said anything about Gateway? They said they were going to start shipping linux soon too.
To patent something the something can't have been in public domain for more then a year. Meaning you can have a product out on the shelves and be like oh shit I want to patent that and you can if it has not been out for more then a year. That is how they get away with patent pending. Now telling people to shut up is not nice at all. Hope you feel like the jerk now.

Argv... I would feel so dumb if the userfriendly and segfault were just jokes.
