When the tech industry is starting to offer better products for more reasonable prices, I call that a bounceback.
By that standard, it's hard to say. The video card industry is looking really good right now, but so far there hasn't been all that much competition to IPod, so that just seems like an entrenchment of a single popular product (and experience suggests this leads to stagnation more than innovation). Plus, Google's stock doubling doesn't really seem to have all that much impact upon technology so much as the world of business. We get the benefits of their technology in their services, sure, but it's not like google is all of a sudden THAT much better than it's been for the past few years.
Frankly, when it comes to technology, I'd say that software is having the resurgence, not hardware. Open Source solutions are as strong and available as ever, meaning that Microsoft has had to pick up the pace in terms of the innovations it provides (or claims to, anyhow). And how spoiled are we that we can look at a game like Doom3 and be bored?
It's interesting to note that this comes out so recently after Linus was named one of ITs best managers. Lord knows he'd have to be to keep so many disgruntled people quelled.
In the followup, somebody was citing as an excuse that Linus is one person and that there's only 24 hours in the day, so maybe some patches get missed. I was wondering, with all of the people he delegates to, isn't there somebody who handles all the security issues? Scroll down the LWN article, and somebody mentions that he needs a Kernel Security Officer, with no follow-up. Does Linus not have one of these guys yet?
Pingus (screenshots, improvement not as drastic as supertuxcart, but still)
Supertux (screenshots, you can see the progress just by scrolling down).
Alright, so these are all variations on a theme (linux motifs combined with older popular titles: Mariokart, Lemmings, Super Mario Bros) but if the artwork is any indication, it's pretty impressive what they've come up with so far.
The limiting factor is organization of talent. You'd think it'd be the artwork, but right now that's not the case so much as getting the artists to work with the core programmers.
Happy Penguin's game of the month project (now called the Help Wanted project, for instance, has led to some significant turnarounds for Linux games (especially with regards to graphics). Right now they're working on Lincity, and amazingly enough, people aren't worried about getting good 3d graphics for it, as much as they are about coding them in.
Might as well get the usual comments out of the way...

Figured I'd take a look at the front page, and lo and behold, five out of the top six items in the amazon.com ad on the website's homepage feature Apple products. It looks like a dynamic ad, but I reloaded several times just for fun and there were 5 out of 6 Apple products there each time.
It's so cute when these guys give each other handjobs under the table.

Had trouble finding them before, but here are some screenshots showing the progress...

One big thing that's wrong with Unix is SCO.
