Both XM and Sirius have comitted to overlaying via a network of terrestrial repeaters. Repeater placement/allocation would be determined by satellite footprint calcuations.
None of the above will be easy or cheap.
I use the service rather than dragging CDs to work or when travelling. I have access to my entire collection, and can quickly and easily select tracks for the playlist I want.
