"Pensieve," I believe, is a portmanteau of "pensive" and "sieve" or filter.
I don't know what it is in Latin cause I'm too lazy to look it up but it's "pensare" in Italian which is "to think". I'm guessing that it's something similar in Latin because English does have the word "pensive" I agree also with the anonymous coward above and maybe Rolling created a new word with actual roots.
