Comodo Internet Security + Comodo Safe Surf blocked this on a system I'm testing.

chasing dependencies is the worst part of the OS for me

I wish Ubuntu resolved my problems. It won't even go online for me. It's not that it doesn't see my network card - it does. It just won't talk to my router over it. I run a derivative of Smoothwall as my firewall/router (with a hub) and it works with Ubuntu on all my other computers. This seems to be a known problem, but I have yet to find a fix. It has something to do with the IPV6 networking, I gather, but I just don't have the time to delve deep enough to find out how to fix it for this computer.

Ergo, I run other distros, live cds, and *gasp* sometimes Windows.

I like ubuntu - I just wish it worked for me on this machine the way it works on other machines. (No, I don't have the time or need to replace the network card either...)

Having recently come from working in two large call center environments, I can tell you that the CRM software does indeed use their telephone number (in some cases from caller id), account number if entered, and any other information that is keyed in before the customer talks to the agent.
I can also tell you that only sometimes is it used to help the agent!
This information is most often used to:

Route the call to the correct agent/queue

    Collect information for statistical analysis

Initialize recording software for quality analysis purposes

Redundantly back up any or all of the first three above (yes, entering the second time is often not productive)

Hear hear. I've been using Pegasus for most of 12 years. I've successfully migrated some of my original emails right up to today, and if I had the money, I would support the author. I haven't seen anything in Thunderbird that can't be done in Pegasus, although I haven't spent 12 years using it. :)

It's had it's flaws, and it's needed updates, but for a seriously useful piece of software that gets used every day, it's more robust than almost any other program I've used. I've been running it regularly under Wine for the last 6 years or so.

I'll miss it when it's gone.

    And then there's me...

I was recently buying a power supply for my wife's computer (on sale!) at Staples. I saw a video card with two rebates. One was an "instant" rebate, ie they took it off at the cash register; one was a mail-in. The cashier asked the computer salesperson if that was correct. He said: "No, they're just instant."

I've often wondered if he meant that. (Of course he didn't!) I ended up getting the 128Mb video card for my wife for free; in terms of dollars, they paid ME!

    $80 - $25 (instant rebate) - $30 (instant mail-in rebate!) - $30 (actual mail-in rebate). It took 5 minutes online and then 6 weeks of waiting, but I got a check for $30.

I never buy anything from a giant chain that isn't marked down below retail. Online suppliers beat retail stores hands-down for cost every time, unless the retail store is clearing something out, or offering a loss-leader.
