  1. looking a gift horse in the mouth on Top Level .xxx Domain Concept Under Scrutiny · · Score: 1

What is the problem with creating a new porn domain? It makes perfect sense and if the government took their heads out of their asses they would see that this is a good idea in that they could further push there puritanical views by simply blocking that tld. Maybe I'm wrong

  2. Old school on Improving Education? · · Score: 1

What would help is to remove a lot of the technology from the classroom. Our science and math skills overall as a country are pathetic. Having gone through grad school myself and working as a TA in several departments I was astonished at how many students couldn't do simple math without their fancy calculators. Students in grade school should be exposed to calculators and computers but not given out in class to be used for homework. I'm not saying we should go to the extreme of only paper and pencil, a medium should be found. Afterall what do you do when the batteries are dead and it's nighttime (sorry no solar remarks). If you can't do algebra and calculus by hand your going to pay for it in the long run alone with the rest of the country

  3. Insanity Prevails on Death Penalty For Hackers? · · Score: 1

This whole article can be sumed up as FUCKING STUPID. If we're going to execute hackers (or at least the FUD throwing medias interpretation of hackers) we can at least even the playing field and execute all the other troublemakers, i.e. Politicians, Lawyers, and Lobbiests to name a few. Lets face it the world would be a lot better place without that kind of trash.

  4. Hidden Costs and General Stupidity on Dell and Napster Going Directly to Colleges · · Score: 1

The article doesn't make any mention of the cost to the schools or more importantly the students. I'm sure that any school that implements this farce will end up further burdening the students. Having worked as a net admin for a college residential network it is safe to say that this is NOT going to help the overall bandwidth problems on campus networks. The only bottleneck that will be somewhat eased will be the outside connection to the internet. Just think of all the students that will be banging away at that blade trying to access the cache of mp3 through legit purchases or more likely those trying to hack it like many will do. Just wait till this starts to catch on and the **AA will get wind and start mandating through government lackeys that students should be charged an additonal "technology fee" which goes right to the **AA. Afterall this is America, bought and paid for by the special interest groups and guilty until proven innocent.

In no way will this improve national security the only side effects from this that are remotely good in the governments point of view is that the security of the country is improved through illegal immigrants getting drivers license. Although that means that everyone else who drives will have to suffer from an increase in uninsured drivers. You can't do anything without a license as it is now forget it in 3 years. The other benefit is that we will now easily be tracked with of new national id cards. Looks like it's time to buy stock in aluminum foil. Assuming that they go with the RFID fad will it be illegal to make your own reader and collect the info on your own system. But then again who really cares the country has gone to hell anyway. You can find me in my sumterrainian bomb shelter.

can someone explain why the FCC fined them (business) for blocking another (business) for essentially free phone calls while on the other hand bans cities from providing free internet access.?
