  1. Brilliant... on Google Shares Ad Wealth With Videographers · · Score: 2, Insightful

Congrats google, you've set the stage for a new era in digital video on the web. If the creators have the monetary incentive to produce their film, then there's a good chance that they start producing higher quality videos more often. Now, we just have to ask ourselves, why didn't youtube think of this in the first place?!?

  3. This won't last... on Songbird the Open Source iTunes? · · Score: 1

Their product is way too similar to that of apple's Itunes for it to not get stopped. Also, why would you bother with something like this when programs such as amarok do everything that Songbird does but better, minus the interfacing with online store. Downloading of illegal music, and ripping tracks seems to work a lot better, and be supported by a lot more than just the stores that you bought it from. Songbird's only feature is that it can interface with lots of music stores, and when most of these stores only have content for a specific player, it turns into simply a matter of "songbird is cool because it supports my player", not "songbird is cool because it lets me download songs from a huge array of music stores"

Why do they always seem to pick on the "little guy"? A divorced mother of 5? How can they possibly make themselves look good by doing this? They would probably be more liked if they were to sue the 20-year-olds with gigs of music instead of the divorced parents trying to make ends meet, or the old granny. It looks as if they are trying to play the "Big mean bad guy", though I can only see this hurting them, am I wrong?

  8. Educational Value on Chalkboards With Brains · · Score: 2, Informative

At my school, the whole place is getting smart boards as part of a 3 year plan. What my school is doing that is diffrent is that before giving teachers a 3000$ touchscreen and saying "Use it, because it will make us really good on paper" , teacher are reciving lessons on how to operate the boards, and how to integrate technology with teaching. This also applies to our new laptop program, which is following a similar plan for application. This goes to show that not all educators, as you claim, are just giving educators this high-tech equipment and telling them to use it, but are rather are teaching them how to use it first. This makes the money spent on technology worthwile and beneficial to the student. As an example, one of our teacher is using the board in math class. She uses the board to give notes, then later saves them and makes them avalable for all to download after the class is done. This provides an invaluable study tool for students. Also, you can buy more software for these boards that facilitate teaching in various classes, such as a math package complete with functional proractor, ruler, cartesian planes, and various shapes. These are all at the disposal of the teacher to use as they see fit. It can really clarify such lessons as making transformations on a cartesian plane, or showing why the three inside angles of a triangle equal 180 degrees. So, to summarize, yes smart boards can be useful, it only depends on the education of the teacher

two 64 bit cores on one chip would make the chip faster than 32-bit. But I don't expect that intel will be releasing this on the first model. They will most likely wait until everyone has one, then release the 64-bit model. This is their main buisness model, remember the p4 2.6 Ghz?

  12. Dual prossesors... on Where's My 10 Ghz PC? · · Score: 1

It's really interesting that dual prossesors haven't caught on in mainstream computing. This isn't to say that there are mobos out there that are avalable to the public that support two or more prossesors, but it's really a niche market, people who generally understand computers looking for a super-fast new computer at a certain point have to start looking at dual prossesor solutions. Not to mention that those consumers(let's call them geeks), when they have their dual prossesor system, there are very fiew apps that actually take advantage of the dual prossesor capabilities(photoshop, final cut, etc). The rest of them just end up being run on seperate prossesors, which is still faster, if ALL apps where made for both single and dual prossesors, then Joe Gamer and the Geek and eventually Fred Email will want a dual prossesor computer, because the two prossesors can act as one(as I said, if the apps are coded right), therefore making faster systems.
