  1. Network of Networks on A Succinct Definition of the Internet? · · Score: 0

That is the simplest of explanation, it is simply the network of smaller networks that are connected together.. Its simple to explain what a network is.. Its just a collection of communicating devices..

A simple analogy is the voice network of networks [International Calls / Local Telephone Providers] and tell them instead of telephones its more versatile communication devices like computers.

Hang on a second isnt the N95 a computer now ?

  2. Maybe they could have worked it out on Sony Blackballs Blog Over PS3 Rumor · · Score: 0

IMO Kotaku could have reworded their article (there was an initial cut down version up on their site) so that it may have been acceptable. Its just a matter of courtesy/negotiation, they could have said this is all "a rumour from some anonymous coward". Sometimes corporations have to guard the timing of announcements and the perceived impact. Its just a matter of co-operation, maybe kotaku could have bargained the story for something more juicy.. like when the price cut can be expected ;-)

  3. Big balls of Gas on Space On a Shoestring · · Score: 0, Flamebait

    Firstly congratulations.

Secondly, lets not get carried away (pun intended). This is a helium balloon carrying a box with gadgets, simple and cheap yes, but heck! thats what weather balloons do.

I think it is over glorifying a simple task. What would be amazing is if they made a craft that was capable of transporting payloads or something that could be controlled (path/stability etc). Otherwise this is just a big ball of gas

  4. Longer development cycle on MS Security VP Mike Nash Replies · · Score: 1

I understand their compulsions. They have gone the whole hog in reviewing code, SDL SD3 etc etc. And then it comes down to this. Each software release is going to take longer and longer and longer and longer. But what they still fail to understand is Grandpa's and Grandma's :-) When they visit a website and they are prompted to click okay 10 times... They will still do so.. When they are prompted to enter their password they will still do so :-(. How many people bother reading those messages anyway.

  5. Chipset problems on State of WLAN Support on Linux? · · Score: 1

I have had quite a lot of success in getting wireless cards to work (by hook or by crook). I generally try to find native drivers and get them to work (download + compile + pray + break keyboard)... If that fails then I fall back to good old ndiswrapper.. (sometimes you need to tinker with it). But what I have always found to be a problem is: No manufacturer tells you what the hell the chipset is!!! You have to find that out by trial and error. My biggest mistake was to buy a USB WiFi adapter based on recommendation from a site... unfortunately the manufacturer had changed the chipset and I burnt myself... Anyway it is finally working with ndiswrapper now :-)
