Brick and mortar is useful when time is of the essence. Once I went into a Sears store, bought a Craftsman ratchet set, went back in the parking lot and tried to use it to loosen a nut on my car, broke it, and immediately was able to take it back for a refund under the Craftsman "lifetime guarantee". Try doing all that with a 1 hour time frame online! (Back in the 80's Sears figured out it was cheaper to just sell cheap made in China crap eat the cost of returns than it was to build stuff that didn't break.)
Sounds like my conversation with cleverbot. If you reference it's previous statements and point out that it contradicted itself, it just denies it said anything. It can't even make up it's mind whether it is male of female.
I've had police burst into my bedroom in the middle of the night while I was in bed, and the truth is that since I was sleeping 20 feet from a major freeway with earplugs in to block the noise, I DID NOT HEAR THEM identify themselves as police. Likewise, many deaf people never hear the police identify themselves, then get beat up and/or killed for not following orders. Not to mention people that simply don't speak English. But it's perfectly ok for law enforcement to resort to deadly force because people didn't do what the police told them to do, isn't it?
It has happened. Hispanic business man hired homeless guy, who used the business man's address as a mailing address. Later, police go looking for homeless guy for drug dealing, burst into house of Hispanic business man (who doesn't speak english) in the middle of the night. Hispanic business man doesn't understand what they are shouting, thinks he is being attacked, pulls his pistol out of his nightstand, and winds up dead -- all because the police fucked up!
Depends on your point of view. I'm disappointed in Obama mostly because he has failed to rectify Bush's mistakes. He has continued to pursue the Bush wars and even started another one, while failing to end tax cuts for the rich. In addition, he has perpetuated the huge loss of liberties that occurred following 9/11 in the name of "fighting terrorism". So if you want to fault Obama for being too much like Bush, I'd be inclined to agree with you.
Agreed, we need to do both -- cut spending and increase revenue. But I'd like to point out that if it weren't for the Bush Tax Cuts and the 2 wars Bush got us into, there would be no deficit in the first place! G.W. was simply the worst president ever, even by Republican standards. That being said, the Republicans and even some Teabaggers do have some good ideas. We need to have a debate on what the legitimate functions of the Federal government are, and restructure it to focus on those functions, not things like funding the arts or public broadcasting. Where possible, government function should be pushed down to as local a level as possible, where it is more responsive to the needs of the people. Bringing back States Rights which were unceremoniously killed by Gonzales v. Raich would also be a step in the right direction.
Sure glad the Republicans have solved that whole deficit problem, so that now they can turn their attention to spending more money on pork-barrel projects!
Sure, Domino's claims delivery is free. But have you noticed that if you pick the pizza up yourself, it's about half the price? They don't charge for delivery, they just give a huge discount for non-delivery. I assure you, you do pay for the cost of delivery, one way or the other.
The Japanese are way ahead of us in developing robots that mimic humans, but you don't send a sex-bot to do an industrial robot's job!
As for why they are hesitant to send in the bots, I suspect once they are used to clean up Fukushima, the bots themselves are considered nuclear waste, no?
They can introduce an HD system at twice the price, and still continue selling the Wii (perhaps cost reduced) to the low-end market for quite some time. It's not a bad strategy, really.
For some reason, all this article makes me think of is Rule 34... and Rule 35.
Doesn't IBM have a patent on Arithmetic coding? We crossed the bridge on patenting pure math a long time ago.
So my door-to-door "Free Breast Exams" scam has an 86% chance of succeeding! Woot!

Next step: programming a computer to recognize that a contraction combines two words (e.g. "that" and "is") into a single word (e.g. "that's")...

I prefer to use a mallet to interact with my computer...
When someone asks it to make coffee, it's going to grab 2 balls and say, "Yo! I got your coffee RIGHT HERE!"
That's nothing... imagine what happens when a male sexbot and a female sexbot get together... who's going to clean up _that_ mess?
The question is, _whose_ two balls has it grabbed?
Programming a robot to grab balls two at a time... what could possibly go wrong?
And when it asks for help, I'm sure it will be rudely told to RTFM...
That's really enough to drive a man to drink...

Make the hands slide a lot faster, eh?

Yeah, sure it is, Tuna Can Tommy...
I beg to differ. Penis-length superiority is the only kind of superiority that really matters!
$259.99 at Costco.
