  1. Wow... somebody really needs to go back on his meds!

  3. I'm outside northern VA, and I can't get a hum anywhere!

  4. Locating in northern Virginia makes sense -- all the internet hubs are there. Locating in New York? That's going to have huge operating costs, I'd expect they'd demand a much bigger bribe for locating there! And by the way, the sales tax in Queens is 8.75%. In Portland, Oregon, it's 0%.

No, if the AI is simply analyzing existing art and trying to recreate existing themes, then the art is derivative (isn't all art derivative?) and should be attributed to the people whose paintings were analyzed by the AI. In this case, the training is probably more important than the programming.

Faraday cages require a ground, i.e. they are not portable. But there should be some way of blocking radio reception. In our Faraday cage at work, I was still able to communicate with WiFi routers outside the cage; they are not perfect.

  14. I'd also have to think that you can't prove in court who did it -- anybody with her icloud username and password COULD have wiped the phone. And yes, I'd think they would immediately put phones in as RF-proof bag as possible. It they don't, they are just being idiots.

"I bought a bourgeois house in the Hollywood hills
With a truckload of hundred thousand dollar bills
Man came by to hook up my cable TV
We settled in for the night my baby and me
We switched 'round and 'round 'til half-past dawn
There was fifty-seven channels and nothin' on
Well now home entertainment was my baby's wish
So I hopped into town for a satellite dish
I tied it to the top of my Japanese car
I came home and I pointed it out into the stars
A message came back from the great beyond
There's fifty-seven channels and nothin' on
Well we might'a made some friends with some billionaires
We might'a got all nice and friendly if we'd made it upstairs
All I got was a note that said "bye-bye John
Our love is fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"
So I bought a .44 magnum it was solid steel cast
And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast
'Til my TV lay in pieces there at my feet
And they busted me for disturbing the almighty peace
Judge said "What you got in your defense son?"
    "Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"
I can see by your eyes friend you're just about gone
    Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"

  21. Too many is not the problem on There Are Way Too Many Streaming Services · · Score: 1

The problem is that the streaming services are also content producers, and make their content exclusive to a single streaming service... meaning I have to subscribe to multiple streaming services to get all the content I want! If all content was cross-licensed to every streaming service, it would be an easy economic decision -- I would just subscribe to whichever service was currently cheapest!

  22. Gender is a continuum, not a binary either/or. And a small percentage of the population are born true hermaphrodites, which the doctors usually "solve" by lopping the male parts off rather than waiting to determine their true gender identity.

  23. Why don't the carriers give me the option of disabling Direct Carrier Billing for my account? In fact, why don't they give me the option of disabling equipment purchase plans? More than once people have order hardware billed to my phone number! (No, I didn't have to actually pay for it, but it took a lot of work on my behalf to fix it.)

  24. My ex got hit by the scam where this company sent her a text message, then because she received the message, they started billing her $9.99/month for the "service" of receiving that text message. Problem is, her account was on autopay and she never even opened her bills, so it wasn't until I looked at her bill 6 months later that she found out. Not sure why that scam wasn't illegal.
