It's not a fail at all. It's legally required! They have paid for the rights to show the content only to brits (who paid for it with their TV license and taxes). So this is a service for the british taxpayers who paid for it. Quite reasonable really.

Now, if they could license the iPlayer tech to other broadcasters running similar schemes (here in NZ, that's ALL of them), that would be cool and a great way to recoup some of that cost for the taxpayers.

OK Mr. Pedantic. Remote desktop is also a generic term and there are a variety of vendors with different solutions for the iPhone including the randomly chosen one I linked to after 3 seconds on google. There are numerous protocols available besides RDP. I have no idea if the particular one I linked to is any good and don't really care. I simply was pointing out that such software does actual exist for the iPhone when the previous poster claimed it did not exist.

However, it's unlikely that he wanted $GENERIC_REMOTE_CONTROL_APP. When someone's lamenting the lack of "Remote Desktop", they're either complaining it doesn't have an RDP client, or it doesn't have a VPN client.

So get down off your cross, stop whining about it and go use whatever device makes you happy. No one really cares what you use so pick what you actually like. There are other fine choices besides the iPhone and iPod Touch out there.

Actually, I like the iPod. Just not its keyboard, and I'd be much happier if (like Microsoft) Apple allowed you to install third party virtual keyboards.

Why your Xbox 360 scratches discs? Out of all the people I can find here that own a 360, not one of them has ever had a disc scratch. So I'd be inclined to work out which drive your particular machine has. There are three drive varieties possible in an Xbox 360 (apparently Microsoft changes every now and again, possibly because of the defects) and one of these three scratches discs. If your machine is vertical, try using it horizontally.

Why don't your similar devices also destroy discs? Not a clue, I'm not an optical drive manufacturer. Then again, nor is Microsoft. Perhaps it should be noted that your similar devices (DVD player, etc) are only designed to be used in one orientation as well, unlike the Xbox.
