  1. Secure Windows. Anyone remember Blaster? on Study Finds Windows More Secure Than Linux · · Score: 1
A study compairing windows 2003 server to Redhat standard distro with out the security suit installed is useless.
I can make my linux box less secure then windows. It would be simple Install OPENSSHD, allow root axis, set root password to GOD.
This artical dosnt analyse any useful information because yes Linux can be setup as insecure, but you can also enable anomonys unencrypted remote desktop on a windows 2003 machine. The good studies on security try to measure security when both machines are as secure as possible and list what services were being run on both.

This is not the first time this type of subject has come up and it will come up again. Why we bother with it on slashdot I dont know, but then again I bothered to reply.

  2. Re:What No One is Considering on Grand Theft Auto Led Teen to Kill · · Score: 1
    Better yet.

Improve the efficency of society and make people more intelligent by letting the government do the video games and PROGRAM children from the get go.

The real question is the program C, C++, Java, VB, Fortran, or some other language.

BTW I have seen a chick paly GTA 3. No she was not topless. Mabie it only works on guys?

  3. Blame Canada on Grand Theft Auto Led Teen to Kill · · Score: 1

It is clear to see that if the water in the Northern part of Canada didn't freeze in 2002 that this never would have happened. People have touched on the blame the parents and the gaming issue, but the bigger problem is that people think that a child is not responsible for his own actions and as such someone else must be blamed. Since people think someone besides the actor must be blamed I think I should identify all the sources to blame for this incident. 1. The police: quite clearly if they were not in the location at that time there would not have been an incident. 2) The parents: How could they raise a kid to be so dumb? 3) Society: Parents did not have a chance to raise their kid because society was too busy pumping them full of bad information. 4) Drug lords. Why Not? 5) Video Games. Who can tell the difference between a GAME and REALITY anyway? 6) James Bond. He kills a lot of people after all. 7) Canada 8) etc etc ..... YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF YOUR ACTIONS NO MATTER WHAT THE RESULT NO MATTER WHAT THE CONSIQUENCE. The United States courts system and others have decided that any excuse is now good in courts, and so long as this precedent stands this will not be the last or worst application of BAD laws.

  4. To What End? on The Basics of EULAs · · Score: 2, Interesting
Regardless of your opinions of what you or blizzard thinks is right concerning in game items being traded for 'real cash', where does the reign of the EULA end?

    1) Blizzard reserves the right to change the EULA at any time. If you do not agree with the new EULA you are out your character, current subscription, and the cost of the original game. Does Blizzard have the legal precedence to do this?
    2) Blizzard claims that all in game content belongs to them and cannot be sold for monitory value, yet they gave away a free in game minion with collectors editions. Doesn't this sound a little 2 faced?
    3) How is WOW different from Microsoft Word? Currently Microsoft doesn't claim the right to all documents produced and if they did it most certainly would not be supported by the courts. Word Documents and WOW characters both took time to produce, the product was paid for, and I accept was clicked on the EULA. For those of you who are going to argue that the character data is on a WOW server I remind you that in most cases your web page which you legally own the content of (assuming you didn't steal your site content) is also hosted on another server which you have an agreement with to provide rent for the storage, CPU usage, and bandwidth.

(All arguments assume software piracy is not an issue)

I am by no means a legal expert nor am I attempting to say that blizzards policy is right wrong or indifferent, but I would like to know what slash dotters think about these questions.
