In the nitpick sense, you are correct. A lot of posters seemed confused about the wording so I was trying to point out what they meant.
You could also say it was 'universally acclaimed' because nearly everyone who actually heard of it had a positive impression.
By universally acclaimed, they mean all the critics loved it. Unfortunately the critics aren't good predictors of a game/device's success. Just look at all the critically acclaimed games that nobody ever heard of.
Its a little early to call the Nintendo DS a failure, especially when it is outselling the PSP in Japan.
