  1. Copyright (c) on Kahle v Ashcroft Appeal Filed · · Score: 4, Insightful

I believe the current copyright law is
A work that is created (fixed in tangible form for the first time) on or after January 1, 1978, is automatically protected from the moment of its creation and is ordinarily given a term enduring for the author's life plus an additional 70 years after the author's death. In the case of "a joint work prepared by two or more authors who did not work for hire," the term lasts for 70 years after the last surviving author's death. For works made for hire, and for anonymous and pseudonymous works (unless the author's identity is revealed in Copyright Office records), the duration of copyright will be 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation, whichever is shorter

  2. Movies when you need them on Napster to Offer Movie Downloads · · Score: 2, Interesting

Yeah i think its a great idea!
If it has a huge list of movies and a no wait download or any waiting time, i would personally watch them.
Instead of waiting on that hard to find movie coming from amazon that you ordered weeks ago, paying for postage and packaging , why not load up your napster client hit in your search for that movie and up it comes , sit back relax and watch the movie you cant find in the shops, or a new movie in the cinema maybe.
But how far will they go , will warez groups have the ability to rip them or will they have some kind of software that magically overlays the stream.
Whatever they decided to do, i hope for a price they let you fully buy and have the legal right to burn a copy for your DVD player.
Napster have had there ups and downs and we should all support and look forward to seeing what the future brings for them.

  3. Bittorrent is more bandwidth efficient! on Hurricane Electric Offers Bit Torrent Service · · Score: 1

Serving files via BitTorrent should be considered when the file size is 10 MB or larger and the number of people downloading at the same time is more than 1. BitTorrent is usually not as responsive as HTTP.
"The server performs two functions for BitTorrent, it tracks files, and seeds them. Because the server can only provide so many seed connections at once there will eventually (not currently implemented) be a limit of 25 torrent files per account. At this time, shared web hosting customers will not be billed for BitTorrent traffic (we don't expect to change this). If this changes, account holders will be notified. The exact features included such as the number of BitTorrent files served per account is subject to change" Quoted from he.net
So i seriously doubt the HE.net users would want to upload and share warez as this most likely would all end up with a nice bill at the end. There is many advantages and disadvantages of bittorrent one i have noticed with downloading torrents is that it has a startup download delay when you first start the transfer. Http is quicker and usually instantly starts with the download.
But technology changes everyday and maybe this is he.nets sneaky secret way of saving bandwidth and being one of the first major companys to sell hosting packages using bittorrent.

  4. Alcohol good for you? on Alcohol is Good for Your Brain · · Score: 2, Informative

There have been earlier studies that have shown that daily, moderate alcohol comsumption can help prevent both heart diseases and stroke.
Thats around 1-3 drinks per day
But again earlier studies have shown that excess alcohol drinking can lead to the destruction of the liver or can be toxic to the brain (alcoholic dementia)
The new study showing that alcohol may fight Alzheimer's involved more than 5,000 people over the age of 55 and lasted for six years.
At the beginning of the study, none of the participants had any signs of dementia. At the end of the study, around 197 of the participants developed Alzheimer's or some other form of dementia. Those who drank between 1 to 3 drinks per day had a 42% lower risk of developing dementia than the nondrinkers. Those who did not drink daily but had more than one drink per week day had a 25% lower risk of developing dementia than the nondrinkers.

One final point, it did not seem to matter what people drank, (beer, wine or liquor), the effect was the same.

So as alcohol may bring you a more fun life , fun can be good for you!
But in this world anything is bad for you so drink up and enjoy a more exciting life!
