Apple to Buy TiVo?
·
· Score: 4, Informative
Really, why would Apple want Tivo? Last I heard tivo was starting to fall on hard times.
Far better off just making their own PVR software. You can already hack together a pretty nice PVR using a Motorola DCT-6200 and a Mac. see here : http://macteens.com/more.php?id=410_0_1_0_C
The only reason Apple might want tivo is to leverage themselves somehow into the way that cable/satellite/ip content is distributed, just to block M$ push. Maybe i'm missing something but I don't see how buying tivo would help much if any with this.
That said I would love to see a nice Mac Mini DVR from Apple. That said if they don't make one, not too hard to make one yourself.
Can someone please explain to me something? I'm not trying to be a troll, but why is overwriting my documents/home/user directory seen as something minor?
I always see people claiming that on Linux, OS X, xyz you are safe because your system can't get hurt, only your personal data. I personally care alot more about what is in my user directory than my system. If my system gets hosed I loose maybe an Sunday afternoon installing everything again, but if my user director goes im going to cry. I have several backups of what I have deemed as important data, but thats not everything, maybe half of my data. My mp3 files aren't backed up for example. Much quicker to instal an os, and the maybe 15 apps I use, than to re-rip 400+ cds.
There was a documentary released twenty-two years ago about the trying to find a solution for Tic-Tac-Toe. Information can be found here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/
The really scary thing is that Daily Show viewers still only averaged 3.59 out of 6. I'm not even american and the only question I would say is a bit challenging is the one asking what level of income the Bush tax cut started at. I'd bet slashdot readers would easily average 5-6.
It should also be noted that this survey/quiz was not of News Shows, but of late night television shows. Daily Show viewers should beat Leno and Letterman. Its a news show... well almost.
Im using a Motorola HS820 headset and D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth Adapter with my powerbook. Works great.
Two very important things though if you are using OS X:
1)You MUST use either the D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth Adapter or the Apple internal Bluetooth. Headsets are not supported with any other adapter but these.
2)You must upgrade the Bluetooth Firmware
I wasted the better part of an afternoon with a iogear(?) bluetooth dogle before I was able to find it wasn't gong to work.
Also I found that I had to turn the "Input level" all the way up in the Sound Preference pane, so other people can hear me. The output volume works with the buttons on the headset which is great.
Good Luck

I, for one, welcome our iPippen overlords

Much more interesting is the Pipa report on misperceptions of the Iraq war by viewers of different news programs: http://www.pipa.org/OnlineReports/Iraq/Report08_2
